Posted: 20 Sep 2012 11:00 AM PDT Popcorn rocks. I love sitting down to a fresh bowl and chowing down. In fact I think we should start a campaign to make popcorn a more common, everyday snack. Making popcorn is certainly not the most convenient thing in the world however. And then there is the hassle of getting your fingers dirty while you eat it. That shouldn't stop us though. Popcorn, Indiana – ironically based in New Jersey – carries a variety of snack items including popcorn, kettlecorn and something called popcorn chips. In their words they are "wildly fanatical about healthier, whole grain snacking" and apparently also very creative. This chow company created a prototype of a device that will change the way we eat popcorn. Meet the Popinator, a voice-activated popcorn launching machine. Designed with binaural microphones, all you do is simply say "pop" when you want a kernel. The unit tracks your location aims right at you, raises the catapult and launches a piece of popcorn to you. The Popinator launches up to 15 feet away, and closes up once done. And you choose the popcorn to load into the unit. Check the video below for a full view of the concept. With a device like the Popinator, a revolution may occur in the art of eating popcorn and automatic snack devices – a perfect quest for a company called Popcorn, Indiana. Turtle Beach has new headsets for the Nintendo Wii U Posted: 20 Sep 2012 09:39 AM PDT When it comes to gaming audio, you know for sure that the name Turtle Beach has been right there from the early days when sound cards were considered to be a luxury on your computer, and many folks (such as yours truly) who lacked the kind of monetary resources would just have to make do with the standard PC speaker which frankly, had a far less vocal range compared to even R2-D2. Well, Turtle Beach does seem to be still around these days, and no longer are they producing sound cards for computers, but rather, still being involved in the audio arena. The Nintendo Wii U, a next generation console from Nintendo, has yet to be introduced, but Turtle Beach has already announced their officially licensed headsets, the Ear Force NLa and Ear Force N11. The two pairs of headsets were specially created in collaboration with Nintendo of Japan, where they intend to deliver to Wii U gamers a pair of solid entry level headsets without breaking the bank. Steve Singer, Vice President of Licensing, Nintendo of America Inc., said, "We are very excited to be working with Turtle Beach to launch the N11 and NLa for the new Wii U. We look forward to fans having a high quality audio experience with our newest console." Unlike your Nokia handsets, however, these will not come in a bunch of merry colors. Instead, they will be available in both black and white shades only, presumably to go along with what the Wii U will be launched in. The Ear Force NLa is the ideal headset for Nintendo gamers who want high-fidelity audio and superior comfort, where it merges high-fidelity stereo game audio and crystal-clear communication in a sleek, lightweight and durable design. Other features include in-line volume control and noise-isolating ear cushions, while those who tend to be on-the-go will find that the NLa's 4-pole connector can be easily disconnected from the Wii U GamePad and hook up to portable devices such as the Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo DS in a jiffy. The Ear Force NLa and Ear Force N11 will retail for $34.95 and $49.95, respectively, as they arrive in the market later in the fourth quarter of this year. Posted: 20 Sep 2012 06:00 AM PDT Here is the lower end version of the two Windows Phone 8 devices that HTC revealed today, where it is simply known as the HTC 8S (some might even think that the naming convention makes this twice the smartphone that the iPhone 4S is, but bad jokes aside, let us get to the situation at hand). The HTC 8S will be a device that targets the mid-range market, and it might be a good starting point for those who want to get acquainted with the Windows Phone platform. The HTC 8S is by far and large the lesser of the two devices, where it has a simple 4″ display which runs at a relatively paltry 800 × 480 pixels resolution, while the camera at the back will capture 5-megapixel shots thanks to its 35mm lens that has a maximum f/2.8 aperture, with a processor that runs at a mere 1GHz (as offered by Qualcomm, of course). Still, the HTC 8S comes in a rather fine two tone design, and it might just be the thing for folks who want something less fruity after experiencing Apple’s iPhone for four generations already. It will run on Windows Phone 8 and supports 4G LTE connectivity as offered by AT&T and Verizon in the US from November onwards. [ HTC 8S revealed copyright by Coolest Gadgets ] |
Posted: 20 Sep 2012 05:30 AM PDT HTC continues to support the Windows Phone platform today with the announcement of two devices, and we will take a gander at the HTC 8X here. The HTC 8X does seem to be quite the powerhouse (Nokia should be looking over their shoulders in a nervous manner even with their flagship Lumia 920 announced), where this Windows Phone 8-powered smartphone will come with 16GB of internal memory and a beautiful, 4.3-inch 720p resolution super LCD screen that gets additional protection from normal knocks and scrapes thanks to lightweight Gorilla Glass 2, in addition to optical lamination that further reduces reflections and glare so that your eyes will be able to make out every single detail under bright sunlight. In terms of its camera, HTC embarks on new territory this time around with their 2.1-megapixel shooter f/2.0 aperture, 88° ultra-wide angle front-facing camera that enables you to capture up to four people in a single shot, in addition to handling 1080p video capture without missing a beat. At the back, there is a 8-megapixel CMOS sensor with backside-illumination (BSI) for improved low-light performance, along with an f/2.0 aperture, 28mm lens and a dedicated imaging chip. HTC threw in a physical shutter button so that you can capture moments in a quick and easy manner. You can choose from California Blue, Graphite Black, Flame Red and Limelight Yellow colors for the HTC 8X if you are interested. [ HTC 8X announced copyright by Coolest Gadgets ] |
Toshiba Camileo BW20 camcorder is one tough cookie Posted: 20 Sep 2012 05:00 AM PDT I am quite sure that some of us out there do our very best to make sure that the shiny new device which we just purchased is covered with a layer of protection, but despite our best and most sincere efforts, the inevitable eventually happens, where a momentary lapse of concentration results in the heartbreaking sound of your smartphone hitting the concrete floor from the height of your waist. Another broken screen and a few hundred dollars poorer later with a replacement device, you swear to yourself that your next purchase had better be able to match your legendary butterfingers ability, which is exactly why we are talking about the Toshiba Camileo BW20 camcorder today. The Toshiba Camileo BW20 camcorder is not only waterproof but shockproof as well, and to dive straight into its extra tough features, here we are with word that it is capable of working just fine even up to 16 feet underwater, and will shrug off dust as well as shocks, brushing off accidental drops of up to five feet. Definitely families and sports enthusiasts who love recording whatever comes their way regardless of the situation will fall in love with the Toshiba Camileo BW20 camcorder, and parents, too, will be able to let their little ones perform some video capture at times without worrying about whether the Camileo BW20 is able to live up to the rigors of a child. That's for its durability, how about its imaging performance? Toshiba will not sell itself short with the Camileo BW20, where it boasts of an f/2.2 aperture lens, a 5-megapixel BSI CMOS sensor, and video image stabilization so that you can shoot video with greater clarity, even when you are underwater. Not only that, sharing your videos and photos on YouTube, Facebook, Picasa and TwitVid are a snap, not to mention being able to relive those magical moments on a HDTV thanks to the built-in HDMI output port. The BW20 even comes with a handy floating wrist strap so that it will not end up at the bottom of the pond or lake. Toshiba is asking for a reasonable $129.99 for the Camileo BW20 camcorder as it makes its way to decent retail stores all round.
