Touchscreen iMac?

Posted: 23 Aug 2012 10:39 AM PDT

Apple revolutionized the world of touch screens. Between the Touch, Phone and Pad – and many other brands of devices that followed – we have become a swiping, pinching, tapping sort of society. Yet the foundational product in Apple's collection is still "touch free." Think about it – the iMac lacks this functionality that we associate with their product brethren. Zorro Macsk, by TMDTouch, proves to change that simple fact and give you a touchscreen iMac.

Zorro Macsk, available at Amazon for just $199, is a frame-like surface you attach to your iMac and in less than 10 seconds you have a touchscreen. Once applied, connect the frame's USB cable to a port on the computer. Since it supports PNP in Mac OS no driver is required to run the Zorro Macsk. Using infrared technology the users input/touches are then detected. And voila! You are pinching, swiping and tapping just as you do on your other Apple products.  The height of the frame is just 4mm, and the unit is specifically tailored to match the contours of the iMac. Currently the Zorro Macsk is available for the 21.5" screen, with 27" in development. It is available in pink, silver and black and also provides a nice option to protect the monitor bezel from dust and scratches.  Take the convenience of touchscreen to your iMac and enjoy a whole new experience.

No More Falling Into the Campfire

Posted: 23 Aug 2012 08:45 AM PDT

OK, so maybe you haven't fallen into the campfire. But face it, campfires have their challenges. Collecting wood, getting flames going, stoking it. Yep, it isn't necessarily what every camping or hiking trip necessarily needs. If you are packing in and trekking 10 miles building a fire for a quick nights stay isn't exactly the best way to spend your time with nature. Trekmates believes an easier way exists and has revolutionized outdoor cooking.

Meet the Trekmates Flameless Cooking System. Consisting of a stainless steel and plastic container and a water-activated heat pack, it is a self contained heat source. Simply put your food in the stainless container, activate the heat pack with water in the plastic container, insert under the stainless portion and close the top. 7-10 minutes later your cooked food awaits. Using in enclosed spaces? No problem. No toxic fumes are created. You will get 40 minutes of cooking time at 194° F with the 50g pack. A 20g option is available too. Simply drop another pack, in for more heat. A neoprene cover for the stainless food holder means you pick it up and eat right out of it. And at 500g the system adds minimal weight to your pack. The Trekmates Flameless Cooking System is available on Amazon, with the container at $43.55 including 4 packs. Additional heat pack are available for $16 (5 x 50g) or $13.94 (7 x 20g).

The uses for the system are really limitless. Sure there are obvious…campers. But gosh forbid mother nature ruins the day, at least you can cook inside the tent. Day hikers can now easily cook. Any boy scouts in your life? It certainly provides a safer option when any children are involved. And you’re not contributing to polluting the world. So keep the fire to a minimum and still enjoy hot food while enjoying nature.

Archos Gen10 XS tablet

Posted: 23 Aug 2012 06:30 AM PDT

There are so many tablets running around these days, that it can get quite hard to keep track of them – especially when you are referring to those which run off the Android operating system. Well boys and girls, here is some bit of news for you – the Archos Gen10 XS tablet is the latest device to arrive from Archos' stables, and it is their flagship model which is said to deliver extremely fast web browsing capability, coming in an extra slim design, not to mention sporting a unique magnetic Coverboard for protection (smells like the iPad cover, no?), docking and easy typing.

As the main event of the Gen10 XS tablet line, the Archos 101 XS will come in a generous 10.1" form factor, but despite the seemingly large screen size, do not be perturbed – it will tip the scales at a mere 21 ounces, while measuring 0.31 of an inch thin, making this one of the first few ultra slim Android-powered tablets to hit the market sometime in the middle of September onwards, with a couple more tablets to arrive from Archos later this year – namely, the Archos 97 XS and Archos 80 XS.

Let us take a closer look at the self-proclaimed innovative Coverboard, where it is touted to be a "unique magnetic keyboard conceived for each tablet model that will offer protection, a kickstand, docking and easy typing". Good to know the Coverboard comes as a standard accessory with each tablet purchase. Not only that, the whole Gen10 XS line is Google certified, running on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich while giving users full access to Google Play. Fret not, there is an Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update coming your way in the fourth quarter of the year.

The presence of a chiclet-style QWERTY keyboard makes it a snap to type, and other hardware specifications include a 1.5GHz smart multi-core processor, 1GB RAM, 16GB of internal memory, a microSD memory card slot, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, Google Maps with Street View and Navigation, Google Drive with 5GB of free cloud storage, and a slew of accessories to get you started. Any takers for this $399.99 tablet when it arrives later this year?

Logitech Washable Keyboard K310 does not mind skinny dipping

Posted: 23 Aug 2012 06:00 AM PDT

How many of you out there work late at nights? Well, if you have raised your hand, chances are you would be slogging it out in front of the computer when you burn the midnight oil, drinking your umpteenth cup of coffee so that you have enough caffeine in your system to complete that particular task before your boss wrings your neck for not meeting the deadline. Well, apart from liquid sustenance, getting something physical into your body is also a good idea, and most of the time, finger food like pizza works perfectly fine.

The thing is, it can get rather messy at times, especially when your pizza comes with all sorts of toppings all the way to Sunday. To wipe that grease from your fingers so that you can resume typing is time consuming and adds up, giving you even more stress as the deadline looms closer than ever before. Washing your keyboard is also not an option since it is not waterproof. Well, I guess it is moments like these that you would find the Logitech Washable Keyboard K310 to be a boon, no?

To put it in a nutshell, the Logitech Washable Keyboard K310 is capable of handling anything from a light dusting to a rinse in the kitchen sink, making it extremely easy to clean as well as a fast dryer. Not only that, another practical aspect of this particular waterproof keyboard is the comfortable typing experience it offers thanks to a familiar layout and sleek, thin profile.

You need not worry about how many times you are able to wash the Logitech Washable Keyboard K310, as it is durable enough to be be hand washed time and time again, and can even go snorkeling with you (sans the USB cable, of course) as long as it does not go deeper than 11 inches of water. There are convenient drainage holes located at the back of the keyboard so that drying becomes a snap, while key characters are laser printed and UV coated in order to make sure they remain crystal clear after numerous washes.

The Logitech Washable Keyboard K310 will retail for $39.99 from October 2012 onwards.

Electronic Drum Machine T-Shirt

Posted: 23 Aug 2012 05:30 AM PDT

You might think that you are tone deaf, but when you feel the urge of being King Kong in front of the lady who caught your eyes, then beating your chest in a rhythmic manner is one of your more primal instincts that is waiting to be expressed. Why not do it with style then, with the £29.99 Electronic Drum Machine T-Shirt? Of course, it would help if you had previous experience in drumming, as getting the right kind of pattern or beat is also essential in impressing the opposite sex – anything less would be deemed simply as noise.

The Electronic Drum Machine T-Shirt will breathe new life into the idea of portable beat-making to a whole new level, thanks to its 8 touch-sensitive drum pads as well as attached portable speaker, allowing you to literally wear your drums. There are 9 different kits to choose from, where they range from vintage 808s to classic Jazz, in addition to some very familiar video game sounds to let you express yourself fully. Throw in a loop function and you are able to record complex rhythms, adding in new layers as you concoct your latest track. Needless to say, you will need to remove the electronics and drum pads from the shirt before washing.
