Ah the long distance relationship. Most of us have tried them, not all of us have succeeded. I guess the romantic notion still stands, “absence makes the heart grow fonder”, or was that “out of sight out of mind”? Hey wait a minute here, there’s a big difference there, but our next gadget is sure to help ease the pain of your long distance romance.

Welcome Kissenger, no not the politician, the robotic pig… made of silicon and equipped with some soft and smooch-able lips, Kissenger is designed to work in tandem with his long distance pig partner enabling 2 long distance human lovers to engage in an Internet make out session, via the pigs. Weird right? But lets just admit it, its not the first time any of us have kissed a pig, am I right?

Anyway, you just smooch away on your Kissenger’s touch sensitive lips and he (or she, I suppose) Don’t want to make anyone all crazy here… sends the kiss to the other pig (the robot, not your girlfriend) and that Kissenger moves his little lips and makes a bit of a humming noise, which may or may not be disconcerting, but I digress. So there you have it, two people in love, far away from each other, making out with plastic pigs… oh forget it, I have no where to go from here.

I see no reason why Kissenger the kissing robot wont be able to save scores of long distance relationships the world over! Get out the violins and light some candles. And you thought romance was dead. By the way, for those of you still reading, no, he doesn’t have a tongue. Seriously?

Of all the new developments I read about, I get excited about medical technology the most. I have a pretty good grasp as to what things used to be like as I have spent a great deal of time studying medical history, it was pretty darn scary back in the day. I have to wonder what our future generations will think of us someday, when they look back at some of our “advances”. Because right now, I have to say, I am pretty darn impressed.

Check out this new “spray gun” capable of aerosolizing (is that a word?) a patients own skin cells in a water based solution, allowing it to simply be sprayed over burned skin and thereby significantly reducing recovery time for the burn victim. In stark contrast to a skin graft, this Skin Cell Gun allows considerably speedier healing. While it might be considered graphic, don’t miss the video after the break.

Evidently, scientists have been able to grow sheets of skin for several decades already, but that process takes weeks or even months to grow and heal but the Skin Gun procedure takes only about an hour and a half for the actual process, and then mere days for healing. Again, while it’s pretty graphic, its well worth checking out the video here.

I’ll bet most of you already know that the leading cause of death for burn victims isn’t really the burn, its the infections that develop while doctors wait for the skin to slowly heal, so this process, has promise to be nothing short of a miracle. Developed by Professor Gerlach and some colleagues at the University of Pittsburg, I sincerely look forward to hearing about more of science’s “Coolest Gadgets” Some really are truly are amazing.

“Wheel….of….Fortune!!!” Remember that zany game show from the early 1980s, where Pat Sajak and the ever lovely Vanna White (also the world’s most frequent TV clapper) kept us glued to our seats as we attempted to solve puzzle after puzzle in the classic gameshow. Well, time has certainly passed in the two decades, and while such game shows are no longer drawing in the audience quite unlike reality TV, you can still bring home a slice of nostalgia with the $27.99 Game Show Clock. There are no puzzles to solve except the one that your boss throws onto your desk, and if you are a clock watcher, surely you would love for the needles to land on the time where you are supposed to get off work – as stated in the employment letter, anyways. Definitely worth a purchase if you want to take a walk down memory lane, or know a Wheel of Fortune enthusiast in your social circle.

iPhones and other forms of smartphones are so commonplace these days, you would be hard pressed to find someone with a featurephone instead. Well, if you happen to own an iPhone and have run out of creative methods to keep your little one occupied during a long road trip, here is something which you can consider. For just $19.99 a pop, the Happitaps iPhone Interactive Bear should get the job done, being an interactive bear of the future that will let you slide in your iPhone or iPod touch. The Happitaps bear is not only capable of singing, he also has a joke or two up his sleeves, is able to read stories, teach ABCs and even play games. Heck, that ought to make sure you have some free time for yourself to check out the paper at the end of a hectic day at the office, no?

Samsung Galaxy Beam packs a projector into your smartphone

Remember those portable pico projectors that one thought would be all the rage when they were released some time back? Sad to say, those devices remained a niche device, and never really took off in terms of popularity. Battery life proved to be the major stumbling block, not to mention the resolution count of such projectors. Well, Nikon did come up with the idea of incorporating a projector into a digital camera, and here Samsung has innovated further by throwing in the innards of a pico projector into that of a smartphone, calling it the Samsung Galaxy Beam.

How apt, considering it “beams” out whatever you want to view onto a (preferably) flat display for maximum clarity. Of course, I do have my concern for the battery life in such a device, as we all know that pico projectors do sap up a whole lot of juice in the shortest time possible. Let us take a closer look at the Galaxy Beam in the extended post.

Sporting an ultra-bright 15 lumens projector, it is easy to share life's more memorable moments in a jiffy wherever you are, although it won’t do well at all in extremely bright conditions, so a room or an enclave would make much more sense. The high-definition projection can be thrown up to 50″ wide, and there is even a projector-dedicated application that makes it a whole lot easier to select content as well as activate projection in but a few simple steps.

I forsee many folks would just copy over their digitally downloaded files onto the Galaxy Beam before playing back the video or movie on the “big screen” – meaning, there is no longer any need to tote around any large projector screen or lug a heavy projector around. Running on Android 2.3 Gingerbread with a 1GHz dual-core processor, accompanied by 8GB of internal memory and a powerful 2,000 mAh battery ought to get the job done. I would carry a portable power supply or charger for the Galaxy Beam wherever I go though, as you can never be quite sure just when it needs a recharge.

Nokia 808 PureView boasts 41-megapixels of shooting goodness

One would have thought that the megapixel race is no longer relevant, but I am rather surprised to see Finnish phone manufacturer Nokia come up with the Nokia 808 PureView at Mobile World Congress 2012, where this particular smartphone carries a 41-megapixel camera inside. Heck, even the high end (and yet unreleased) Canon EOS 1D-X carries only 18-megapixels of shooting goodness. Obviously, the megapixel count of the Nokia 808 PureView is the highest to date for any consumer class digital camera or smartphone, but how does it fare in real world performance?

Also, there is the issue of finding the storage space to stash away all of those 41-megapixel images on your home computer. You would be hard pressed to purchase new storage devices more frequently than ever before, so that might be something you would want to take into consideration before bringing home this puppy and start to use it to shoot images right out of the box.

It is rather strange that Nokia decided to have the Nokia 808 PureView run on the Nokia Belle operating system instead of Microsoft’s Windows Phone, as the latter might do its bit to endear more folks to the PureView instead of the former. Nokia’s new imaging superphone is most probably a niche market device, targeting folks whose mobile photography needs are far more advanced that those of the average person. Camera enthusiasts will definitely be curious to check this model out for sure.

16GB of internal memory can be further augmented with a microSD memory card, and the PureView will also feature a 4″ AMOLED display at nHD resolution (640 x 360 pixels), various sensors, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity. Any takers? No idea on the pricing details as at press time, but it should not cost too much just because of the whopping megapixel count. Would you give this a go out of curiosity?
