Apple Free – iDevice Protection

Posted: 16 Feb 2012 09:53 AM PST

I admitted in a recent post that I had yet to purchase an iPhone. While I got the occasional accolade, for the most part people snickered and belittled me for not yet entering the 21st century. Bear in mind I already had an iPad and an iPod and various other electronic  items that should have qualified me among the tech savvy, but most folks were faintly ashamed of me.

This weekend I got the darn iPhone. Of course I purchased the optional insurance from Apple, as I saw it, there was no choice. It was very expensive, but I have a daughter that we call “the Crusher”, so a discussion was not necessary. Well, I wish I had known about iSmart Protection, available nationwide, it offers the first ever family, group, small business and large organization plans at discounted prices. Best of all, it actually offers protection to people with UNLOCKED or Jailbroken iPhones who were previously unprotected. (woo-hoo)

It seems that the iSmart Protection plan was developed to fill a need within the iDevice crowd, in that their toys were expensive enough to require protection, but that the protection itself carried a hefty price tag as well. Please note: These folks specialize in repair, not upgrades and replacement, so they can offer a fair price for taking care of your precious toys.

The iSmart Protection plans offer a fantastic mail in service, with same day turn around for the iPhone 4 and 4S as well as the 3GS, the G and the 2nd, 3rd and 4th generations of the  iPod Touch and of course it covers the ever popular iPads 1 and 2. With a 2 year warranty that includes unlimited repairs starting at a mere 59 bucks, it may just be worth a try, even with “the Crusher”

The C-String – Not your Mama’s Underwear

Posted: 16 Feb 2012 06:00 AM PST

Okay, I get the problem, I really do… You’ve got the perfect dress and not even the skimpiest thong can be hidden beneath it, failing to give way to that smooth bunch -free appearance. Let’s face it, to even an inexperienced eye, one can tell if you’re going commando or not. Panty lines, or no panties? Which is worse? We shall weigh in on this later, in the meantime check this out:

The C-String. There. I said it. This fanciful twist on G-string undergarments is a masterpiece of modern engineering, touted as sexy, comfortable, full of form and function. The C-String promises to end your underwear “issues” and doubles as a *gasp* bathing suit? You know, one that won’t leave tan lines. Seriously? With its flexible internal frame, you just slap it on and go. I’m trying to picture myself in this thing, and trust me when I tell you, the visual isn’t what I hoped it would be!

To be fair, when doing my research, I had the opportunity to read quite a few reviews for the C-String, and they were overwhelmingly positive. It seems everyones biggest fear was that it might fall off. Of course if you were walking around in one of these tiny little patches in the first place, would explaining what you just tripped over be your primary reason for embarrassment? I think not.

So all this being said, there are some girls out there that think this little number is fantastic. They find themselves liberated from side strap issues and visible lines beneath their smooth skirts, they enjoy an (almost) all over tan without being encumbered by traditional bathing suit bottoms. So maybe I’m missing something here. My curiosity is getting the better of me, I’m going to grab one of my headbands and see if I can simulate the look and feel of the C-String.

If you’d like to try one for yourself they come in small and medium for about 24 bucks, they are available in select stores or online at www.cstringdirect.com and by the way…. What ever you do, DON’T try the headband thing! You just have to trust me on this…

VTech has new range of baby monitors

Posted: 16 Feb 2012 05:30 AM PST

VTech is known for their cordless telephones for home as well as electronic learning products for children, and this time around they have turned back the clock to target an even younger "audience" so to speak – with the introduction of a new range of baby monitors. They are the Safe & Sound Full-Color Video and Audio Monitor (VM321) and the Safe & Sound Digital Audio Monitor (DM221). Both of these baby monitor systems from VTech deliver robust features without breaking the bank (after all, new parents would have discovered that there are already so many hidden costs in raising up a newborn), allowing parents to maximize their monitoring options while having enough money left over for the month.

Merging their expertise in wireless home communication as well as knowledge of innovative children’s electronics products, what you get from VTech is a highly functional and affordable line of baby monitors. This new baby monitor range delivers digital communication technology, where range and sound quality are improved, while interference from other home devices are reduced so that parents are better able to hear sounds and view images from the baby monitor.

The VTech Safe & Sound Full-Color Video and Audio Monitor which retails for $149.95 will deliver a full audio/visual monitoring solution that offers parents peace-of-mind with up to 1,000 feet of range between the camera and parent unit. This system offers high-quality video resolution, transmitting it at up to 22 frames per second on a 2.8" video display at 320 x 240 resolution. Not only that, you get a split video screen, letting you view from up to four separate cameras if you decide to invest in even more cameras at $49.95 each. When dusk arrives, fret not – there is infrared night-vision capability for your viewing and monitoring needs. Not only that, a two-way intercom system lets your newborn babe coo to your voices, where it is accompanied by polyphonic lullabies to play, a temperature sensor to make sure parents will keep rooms sufficiently warm or cool, while vibrating alerts help alert you to the baby’s room. There is also a six-level LED sound indicator that lets you adjust volume accordingly, while the rechargeable battery is a great money saver in the long run since you need not replace batteries – just charge it.

Pocket touchscreen could be the future

Posted: 16 Feb 2012 05:00 AM PST

You can more or less say that Apple's smartphone has changed the way we look at smartphones – previously, those tend to be behemoths in their own right, sporting an extremely large form factor with most probably a QWERTY keyboard snuck in somewhere – be it a slide-out keyboard or a horizontal clamshell format. Touchscreen keyboards have certainly taken off since the iPhone's introduction to the world in 2007, and they are set to stay. In fact, many other devices these days come with a touchscreen display – anything less than that, and chances are your fingers themselves would not feel comfortable.

In fact, most of us disconnect from our family and friends physically in order to connect with our mates over a smartphone, and most of the time if it isn't a Blackberry, our fingers would be dancing merrily across a touchscreen display. I find it rather disturbing that the younger generation tend to remain aloof at a dining table or social setting, and taking away their smartphones might be deemed as a punishment worse than death! Well, for those who feel that they absolutely cannot leave their smartphones alone for five minutes, here is a new touchscreen prototype that might be a game changer – it can be used to send text messages even when concealed in your pocket.

This stealthy screen works whenever it is touched through the fabric, and works with silk, cotton and even thick fleece. Whether you are at class or in a meeting, you can always rest a fingertip discreetly on the pocket with the touchscreen facing up, while tracing messages which should not be too hard for someone like you who has gotten so used to touch typing without even have to look at the screen. After all, this prototype touchscreen can understand such scrawling messages thanks to a program that deciphers such handwriting.

Doing so, you need not break eye contact with your group, although they might wonder why are you tracing out stuff on your pants pocket, with the risk of being labeled as a pervert if your touchscreen is located extremely near your groin. Known as PocketTouch, this technology was created by the Microsoft researchers T. Scott Saponas and Hrvoje Benko with Chris Harrison, a Ph.D. student at Carnegie Mellon University.

Organic Air Scrubbing Purifier

Posted: 16 Feb 2012 04:30 AM PST

Most of us who live in cities often need to get out of the city in order to enjoy a breath of fresh air, but what if modern technology is able to bring home fresh air into your midst? The $399.95 Organic Air Scrubbing Purifier will get the job done, where this organic air purifier eliminates 99.9% of all pollutants, not to mention make short work of odors at the same time. How does it work? The air purifier will create a neutral ambient air which attracts positively and negatively charged airborne impurities, drawing them into the unit using a fan, while destroying them with a careful mixture of water and an organic enzyme.

Just like yogurt cultures, this particular enzyme will break down all carbon bonds in order to destroy any organic matter, ranging from mold to viruses, and pet dander. It does not take the route of traditional filtration methods, so you need not worry about having to come face to face with pollutants smaller than 0.3 microns, while VOCs – harmful gases emitted by paint, cleaning supplies, and other common household items, are also destroyed. Breath easy now, folks, if you have one of these in your abode.

Schrödinger’s Cat Executive Decision Maker

Posted: 16 Feb 2012 04:00 AM PST

There are times when you need to make a decision, but you cannot just quite put your finger on whether it is the correct plunge or not. Some of us might take the tried and tested “lucky coin” route by flipping it, and before you open up your hand to see whether it is heads or tails, your heart would most probably wish it was one decision or the other that you had previously determined to the coin toss result, leading you to the answer. Why not go high tech with the traditional coin toss with the $29.99 Schrödinger’s Cat Executive Decision Maker?

This unique device holds a bored “cat” in the box – of course, this cat is not a living, breathing organism, but rather, a digital representation of a feline. All you need to do is be in two minds on a matter, and the Schrödinger’s Cat Executive Decision Maker will help you get the job done as you slide open the door. When you do that, the cat inside will flash in flux between life and death, resulting in either being alive or dead – which can be interpreted as a “Yes” or “No”, respectively. It is powered by a trio of AA batteries.
