Lorex LiveSense Baby Monitor

Posted: 05 Aug 2011 11:23 AM PDT

I suppose that Lorex’s LiveSense LW2401 is meant to be a Baby Monitor, but honestly, it can be a lot more than that.

The LW2401 allows the user instant video, and it comes with a camera and a 3.5 inch monitor. I got a chance to try it out, and I didn’t have to do any calibration or anything. The moment I turned the devices, they were paired.

From there, I had a baby monitor as well as any type of video monitoring for my home. I could even record the video on a microSD card, which was included in the package. The microSD card came with an adapter, as well as a USB cable for downloading to a computer.

For those who are interested in using the Lorex LiveSD as a baby monitor, then you should know about its features. It has an electronic temperature sensor to monitor the climate in the baby’s room. It also has a two-way audio between the camera and monitor in case you want to talk to your baby with a disembodied voice. It even plays lullabies for crying out loud.

For those not interested in using this device for a baby monitor might be interested in hearing that you can add up to 3 additional cameras. You can also use view the handheld monitor from anywhere using Skype.

You can find out more information on the Sense here at the official site. I can’t seem to find a price on this as yet, though.

Brando USB optical mouse serves as digital scale

Posted: 05 Aug 2011 10:40 AM PDT

We have seen a lot of interesting products come out of Brando before, and they are often quite useful in certain situations. For example, there was the Bike Crash Cam, good for lawsuits involving a two-wheeled bike accidents.

This USB optical mouse also seems good for only certain situations. As you can see, there is a working scale on this mouse. It has a cover so you are not constantly weighing your fingers.

The problem that I see is that I don’t think I really need a device like this. While it is handy to have a scale on one’s desktop, I don’t really need one that can only go up to 500 grams. I wonder if there is an app for something like this.

I suppose that if you are in the business of shipping small items, this would come in handy. After all, I do a lot of business on eBay, and I have a postal scale for that. I don’t even think that I could put an envelope on this.

However, if you are in a business where weighing small things is important (and I’m not talking about drugs), this USB Optical Mouse with Pocket Digital Scale might come in handy. You should be able to get it from Brando here for a price of $22.

Giant lady appears in Hamburg’s Alster Lake

Posted: 05 Aug 2011 10:04 AM PDT

We have seen some interesting giant sculptures before, like those big ones powered by the wind. This one that you see here is created by Oliver Voss on Alster Lake in Hamburg.

According to my Source, it appeared in the lake on August 3, and it rises four meters above the surface of the water. It is not a permanent edition to this body of water, as it will stop being on display until August 12.

This sculpture is called “Badenixe”, which translates to “bathing beauty”. Another name is “Riesen-Nixe”, which translates to “grand mermaid”. Clearly, it doesn’t look like a traditional mermaid, as it apparently does not have a fish tail. Unless this lady has some backwards arms, those two lumps in front of her are legs.

Apparently, this lady has caused quite a controversy since many interpret this lady as being nude. I suppose that you could interpret that from what you see above the waterline, and one might want to question why someone would put a giant skinny dipper in this public attraction.

I’ll let you decide whether this sculpture is worth keeping, and I haven’t heard any plans to extend its swim. There are more pictures of it at my Source, and I’ll also let you decide whether she blends well into the surroundings like the Statue of Liberty.

8 Foot Tavern Bowling Game

Posted: 05 Aug 2011 06:30 AM PDT

Just what constitutes a guys’ night out? Does it mean a visit to the local bar, where you knock back pint after pint of “happy juice”? Well, some folks prefer to go bowling, knocking over pins instead of ladies with their smoldering good looks. Just in case you run into one of those moments when you just wish your mates would leave you well alone as you drown in your own thoughts, and yet want the comforting sounds of a bowling alley which you’ve gotten so used to, here is the 8 Foot Tavern Bowling Game that might help.

This bowling game can be found in taverns, where it is based on the original Shuffle Alley that became wildly popular in the 1950s. True to its predecessor, this game will provide you with a challenge – that is, to slide a 2 7/8″ diameter chromed steel puck down the game’s waxed formica lane so that you can hit all ten 10.25″ tall pins, where they will “crash” just like the real deal.

There is a 27″ LCD display with 1600 x 900 resolution which will keep track of the score automatically, including sharing the best shot suggestions whenever you are out of ideas, animations depicting strikes, turkeys, and frame replays, not to mention commentary by PBA Champion Parker Bohn III. To have such high tech entertainment in your home is not going to come cheap though, as the 8 Foot Tavern Bowling Game will set you back by a cool $6,000.

Cleanwater Baby Bathtub goes high tech with temperature reading

Posted: 05 Aug 2011 06:00 AM PDT

I would say that it is confirmed that babies, while they smell really nice, do get dirty – and often, too. Instead of throwing out the baby with the bathwater, why not make sure you keep baby smelling nice and looking clean with the new Cleanwater Baby Bathtub? This particular device that ought to capture the attention of new parents takes the high tech route by offering a color-coded digital thermometer so that you know what temperature it is at the moment before tossing baby in – I jest, you don’t toss your kid in!

All for just $89.99? Sounds like a bargain, and you can always settle for the right temperature with but a glance. After all, being a new parent, surely you have many other things on your mind, so it doesn’t hurt to have some outside help, right? After all, baby’s sensitive skin would appreciate your care and concern, and each new purchase even comes with a bath sponge and rinse cup to help you get started. It will fit into most single and double basin sinks, making it appeal to most people who do not have some custom fitted, eccentric looking bathroom.

Skytex Primer Pocket media tablet is on Team Android

Posted: 05 Aug 2011 05:30 AM PDT

I guess it is more or less a given that the iPod touch is the undisputed portable media player, taking over the regular iPod’s reign many years ago. Since the iPod hit the market and catapulted right to the top of the food chain, nothing else released since then by other manufacturers actually managed to dislodge the iPod from its lofty position. That is just the way some of the things are in the world, but perhaps things might change in the future. For the moment, even Skytex’s Primer Pocket media tablet is no match, never mind that it runs off the Android operating system from Google.

The Primer Pocket will be a 4.3″ media tablet that does blur the line between a smartphone and a portable media player. While it is far too small to be considered as a tablet, we don’t think the 4.3″ display on this without cellular capability qualifies it for being a smartphone, either, letting it remain within no man’s land, so to speak. What else can the Primer Pocket hold that might just increase your interest level in it?

You will just have to wait until August 18th arrives as the Primer Pocket will hit store shelves by then, costing you $99 in the process. Sounds like an affordable figure, although this is one case where you do get what you pay for – a 4.3" multi-touch display, wireless 802.11b/g/n connectivity, a built-in G-sensor, as well as Android 2.2 Froyo right out of the box. I’m still stumped as to why there is not Android 2.3 Gingerbread released for this, perhaps Skytex thought it wasn’t necessary to do so.

Hardware specifications of the Primer Pocket include a 4GB internal flash drive, while you can top that up by another 16GB if you decide to throw in a microSD memory card of that capacity. Overall, the Primer Pocket is slim in nature and ought to fit into most pockets. This seems to be a smartphone that has its cellular functions turned off.

Eco Pod offers fantastic protection for your iPod

Posted: 05 Aug 2011 05:00 AM PDT

Are you one of those who absolutely love the great outdoors? Well, if that is the case and your weekends are spent by the river doing some fly fishing instead of rocking your body to the latest dance tunes, then the Eco Pod might just be the thing for you. Why do we say so? Well, for starters, Grace Digital’s latest release is a 100% water, sand, and shock proof case. Now that’s definitely a resume that is worth boasting, no?

Don’t be fooled by the title – it will not only protect your iPod, but it will basically offer protection for your range of portable media players, never mind if they’re running on iOS, Android or some other custom operating system version. Featuring 100% waterproof earbuds, the Eco Pod might be your next best swimming accessory after a good pair of goggles – but of course.

Just how much do you think something like this will cost? Grace Digital is looking at a $49.99 sticker price tag, knowing full well that it will cost you so much more to purchase a new device if that gets short circuited when it drowns. After all, water is not the only nemesis for your new toy – dirt, grime and all the rest of the outside elements do play a part in sending your smartphone into a wonky state, and we’d hate it if you actually lost your list of contacts as well as the rest of your data, right?

Coming in a water and shock proof polycarbonate shell, the Eco Pod will also be shock resistant, and since it has a universal headphone jack, it ought to function with just about all forms of headphones or ear buds in the market – letting you still enjoy your current set whenever there is no need for waterproofing.

If you don’t feel like listening to anything, you can still use the Eco Pod to tote around your credit card stash, driver's license, some cash, and even a set of keys. The inclusion of a 2" carabineer clip is a stroke of genius, as it lets you hook it to a backpack or other equipment whenever you need an extra hand.
