Wahoo introduces Fitness Blue HR Posted: 23 Dec 2011 05:30 AM PST Wahoo might sound like a play on Yahoo!, especially for those who are familiar with the Mario video game character and his evil nemesis, the ever greedy Wario. Well, all I want to say is this, Wahoo Fitness is something else altogether, and it is very far removed from the world of gaming. It is, after all, the leader in smartphone fitness technology, and they have announced the Wahoo Fitness Blue HR, touted to be the world's first Bluetooth Smart heart rate monitor. Sporting the latest in Bluetooth technology, the Blue HR (which stands for Heart Rate) will be able to communicate directly with the iPhone 4S as well as other Bluetooth Smart Ready devices, giving users the opportunity to check out real-time heart rate readings on their smartphone device. You will be able to use Wahoo's Blue HR and the fitness app of your choice, clearly placing your heart rate data, music playlists, smartphone functions, and GPS maps amongst others in a single place. Now, the all important question that we tend to ask when it comes to newly announced gizmos and gadgets – just how much will the Fitness Blue HR cost? It will retail for $79.99 a pop, and do not expect to see this under the Christmas tree this year as Wahoo's Blue HR will only be able to make it to stores around the US sometime in January next year. When the Blue HR is launched, expect it to receive the full support of several of Wahoo Fitness' app partners who have been hard at work behind the scenes, integrating Wahoo's Open API to support the Blue HR. Some of the most popular fitness apps have already been tested and released in the App Store, where among them include MapMyFitness, RunKeeper, 321Run, Runmeter, and MotionX. Do expect more to join this merry bunch when 2012 rolls around, and it is nice to see the hardware not being tied down to a specific app that offers far more flexibility and freedom to the user. Allied Victory Sidecar Motorcycle Posted: 23 Dec 2011 05:00 AM PST You know something? The moment I laid my eyes on this $10,000 Allied Victory Sidecar Motorcycle, somehow or rather, the visage of Captain America flashed across my mind. I could not help it, and I guess an icon of freedom, even if he is an imaginary person, does actually work as an idea. For those who want to live out their Captain America fantasies and shoot some imaginary Nazis down while you traverse through the gravel path of your mansion, this is the perfect ride for you. Sporting a Ural-T sidecar motorcycle, this is widely regarded as a reliable workhorse by reconnaissance troops who forged ahead despite being in the midst of Russia’s unforgiving terrain and climate. This time around, modern components make up the vehicle, making it roadworthy. Sporting an electric starter (or kick starter for purists), it will ferry you and your sidekick around with its air-cooled, flat-twin 749cc engine, churning out 40 hp while being capable of hitting a top speed of 65 mph. With a 5-gallon tank, it is capable of moving around for up to 165 miles thereabouts before requiring a refill. Heck, there is even a trunk for you to stash away your collection of Captain America comics to read along the way. Cool Gift Idea: Digital Picture Frames, check out our reviews. Posted: 23 Dec 2011 04:30 AM PST If you’re macho and you know it, you would have scoffed at bottle openers, preferring to use your set of pearly whites instead. Wait a minute here, this is somewhat an oxymoron, since pearly whites and macho don’t go together due to all the booze and perhaps cigarettes that you consume. Anyways, that is just a small technicality, and one thing’s for sure – your teeth will not be there all the time, so do be prepared to wear dentures once your hair starts to thin, and that beer belly begins to show. Growing old does not mean you quit your drinking sessions with your buddies, but you might want to give that denture a rest from opening bottles, and start using the $19.99 Switch Pop Bottle Opener instead. This 7″ long stainless steel switchblade-style bottle opener sports a solid weight to get the job done, while the pearlized handle adds a touch of class. Bear in mind that this is definitely not TSA approved, so leave it at home if you are going to take a flight the next time round. Cool Gift Idea: Digital Picture Frames, check out our reviews. Jabra SUPREME Bluetooth mono headset Posted: 23 Dec 2011 04:00 AM PST For those of you who do have a passing interest in each new model of a particular Bluetooth headset or device, here is something that might tickle your fancy – the Jabra SUPREME Bluetooth mono headset, which is touted to be the first of its kind that will come with Active Noise Cancellation technology which will work in tandem with Noise Blackout 3.0 & Wind-Noise Reduction technology. Having said such a mouthful, all those technological wonders crammed inside does seem as though you are able to drive a Ferrari or Lamborghini at top speed with the window or top down, while talking to your wife and she thinks you are at a library. I guess the only way to find out would be to try that for myself, and the easy part is procuring the Jabra SUPREME Bluetooth mono headset, as the exotic sports car is another matter altogether – not in this lifetime, anyways. Touted to be the most advanced Bluetooth mono headset in the world (as at press time anyways), Jabra’s SUPREME is said to deliver exceptional audio quality at both ends, making it the ideal accessory for heavy users of hands-free communication, no matter how noisy an environment they are in. I wonder just how much more effective the sound quality is like with the Jabra SUPREME compared to the Aliph Jawbone which works on a totally different principle. The Jabra SUPREME will sport a black leather finish that is preferred by most users (according to Jabra, and I guess that they are right in some ways since most business-like tools and gadgets do come in that color), boasting a patented boom arm which 'flips', letting you power on and off by simply flipping the headset open and close. Combine this advanced design with a state-of-the-art adjustable ear hook as well as a wide selection of ear cushions, Jabra certainly intends to push this all the way, boasting that it is one of the most comfortable and easiest headset carrying solutions in the market. Throw in a 24mm speaker for powerful sound, and it would be music to your ears. Cool Gift Idea: Digital Picture Frames, check out our reviews. Posted: 23 Dec 2011 03:30 AM PST If you are one of those who needs a last-minute gift for an iPad user, it is here, better late than never. Actually, I’m sure that the ePillow has been out for a while now, but I only got a chance to recently try it out. It is designed to use the iPad or other Tablet comfortably while sitting or lying down. There is a video of it after the jump. It really comes in handy on an airplane, and works a heck of a lot better than using the airplane tray table. Not only that, but the ePillow is good as a headrest in case you get tired on the plane ride. Another handy feature of the ePillow is the carry-on strap which allows the user to drop it through the handle of luggage, like the kinds that you drag behind you on wheels. There is also a small pocket that is just big enough to hold an iPhone. I would recommend this ePillow as the most comfortable way to use a tablet. It is something I would only use before I was about to fall asleep, as the ePillow would just be tempting sleep for actual work on the iPad (or other tablet). You should be able to get the ePillow for about $29.95 from the official site. It is available in all kinds of colors like Brown, Black, Red/Grey, Aqua/Grey, Pink/Black, Black/Pink, and Red/Black. Anti-Theft Car Seat uses your backside for ID Posted: 23 Dec 2011 03:15 AM PST I have to admit that it was difficult to come up with a headline for this posting. How else can you describe that your butt (or some even more vulgar word) can be used as an identifier. After all, every car thief has to sit in the driver’s seat and drive away. However, what if there was some theft-deterrent in place so the car will only drive when only certain butts are programmed in. Yeah, this is one of those things that is really fun to write about because it’s really easy to make a joke about. However, this is a device under development. In fact, the lower section is lined with 360 pressure sensors that measures the force of the backside across the seat. Then, after all that pressure is analyzed in central laptop, the system will determine whether this butt belongs to you. Believe it or not, the Advanced Institute of Industrial Technology in Tokyo says that this butt-scan is 98 percent accurate. I’m not certain how it measures against a fingerprint or eye-dentifier scan, but the tech certainly looks promising. Who knows? In a few years, all of our cars will have our…yeah, I guess you can see where this is going. But forget it, it is too easy of a joke to make.
