Hercules Dualpix HD720p for Notebooks

Posted: 16 Nov 2011 07:10 AM PST

Aww, Hercules! Hercules! Yes, the company has given us this Dualpix HD 720p webcam for notebooks. So if you are an owner of an laptop that doesn’t have an integrated webcam, this might be your thing.

According to the company site, this is the first 720p high definition (1280 x 800 pixels) webcam fro the PC, and it comes with a wide-angle autofocus lens. It can shoot at up to 30 frames per second, with a photo resolution of 5 Megapixels.

I found that it has a wide viewing angle, which means it can allow the user to be seen from head to toe. That is different from other webcams that can get a little too close to the face. It also has a terrific built-in microphone.

The Dualpix is probably named for the two rotation axes that can work on the side or on top of the laptop’s screen. The image an be adjusted automatically just by twisting it ninety degrees.

In addition to this feature, the Dualpix has a lot of software like Hercules Webcam Station Evolution for photo/video capture, for file conversion to iPod, PSP, or just YouTube.

You should be able to purchase the Hercules Dualpix HD720 at places like Amazon for a price of about $39.99. You can get more information about it here.

Velocomp presents the iBike Workout

Posted: 16 Nov 2011 07:05 AM PST

We have written about a lot of bike related things for the iDevice like the Wahoo Fitness Bike Pack. Velocomp, a sports tech company that has created of the iBike Dash cycling computer, has recently unveiled the iBike Workout.

The iBike Workout is a simple dongle designed to fit in the 32-pin connector for the iPad, and it is quite simple to download the iBike application. This allows the iPad to be used for indoor cycling training with ANT + sensors.

The iPad user can select from over 40 different power and HR workouts, and you can achieve “maximum fitness”. Man, if only I can use this with the FitDesk that I just wrote about in the last post.

In all honesty, I have not seen a lot of bike related applications for the iPad, mostly for the iPhone. I suppose that it is a matter of time before someone makes the ultimate iPad app for a bike. Perhaps this particular iBike app is going to be the one.

I don’t have any information about where to purchase this product as yet, as the iBike site doesn’t seem to have it listed as a product as yet. I do have a price, as it costs about $69.95.

FitDesk: Work and exercise are at last combined!

Posted: 16 Nov 2011 07:00 AM PST

As someone who writes for a living, I am more than concerned about my sedentary lifestyle. You can imagine my excitement when I got a chance to try out the FitDesk.

The FitDesk is a stationary bike that is designed to hold a laptop. Right now, I am typing out this entry while I am pedaling. All I can think about is how much pounds I am going to lose with this! Yeah, I am probably being too optimistic with this particular thing, and I am pretty certain that I am not going to be able to keep pedaling for my entire work shift. Perhaps I need to do this for a month, and see what my scale tells me.

The FitDesk has a deck design for the laptop that is pretty stable, and even has space for a mouse. It even comes with pockets on the sides for a remote control or a cellular phone. What you might not be able to see in the picture is that the laptop is held on there with its included rubberbands.

So far, this post is going well, and I think I found my new active lifestyle! Best of all, the FitDesk is ultra compact so it can fold up and wheel into a compact space. You should be able to get the FitDesk from the main site for about $229.99 for a limited time.

Casio G’zOne Ravine 2 arrives on Verizon Wireless

Posted: 16 Nov 2011 05:30 AM PST

Phones these days are rather fragile things – especially those of the smartphone variety, Gorilla Glass or not. I know for sure, because when my HTC Desire S dropped on the floor from waist height, the screen just cracked (apart from my heart, of course). Well, if you are like me and tend to have this invisible layer of butter around your fingers that seem to “activate” itself whenever you are holding something valuable, perhaps it is time you start to look for something more durable. Verizon Wireless has just the thing in their bag of tricks with the Casio G'zOne Ravine 2.

Not only is this clamshell handset compact, but it is really durable to boot. For starters, it was designed and developed with outdoor enthusiasts and field workers in mind, where it will also support global roaming so that you can virtually use it in over 200 countries world wide.

Capable of withstanding even the most extreme conditions (I wonder whether those with a lower constitution would be able to outlast the phone), the Casio G'zOne Ravine 2 will also come with the popular G'zGEAR software that is capable of operating in seven modes in order to enhance the active-driven lifestyle. It doesn’t matter whether you bring this hiking with you, camping outdoors for weeks on end or at the construction site – it is tough enough to handle dust and errant sprinkles. Shocks and drops? Nothing of that sort will have it in awe.

To put it in a nutshell, the Casio G'zOne Ravine 2 will meet military standards 810G for immersion, water, shock and dust resistant, vibration, salt fog, humidity, solar radiation, altitude and low and high temperature storage, and has a microSD memory card slot for expansion purposes. Use it like a walkie talkie thanks to the Push-to-Talk capability, and the 3.2 megapixel camera does its job decently for casual shoots. You will be able to bring home the Casio G'zOne Ravine 2 from November 17th onwards, where it will retail for $149.99 after a $50 mail-in rebate, after signing up for a new two-year contract, of course.

LG delivers Android 2.3 Gingerbread update for Optimus 3D smartphone

Posted: 16 Nov 2011 05:00 AM PST

You know, back in the early days of mobile phones, we did not need to worry about a software update at all. All we looked forward to was a new phone, and back then, giants like Motorola and Nokia rolled out their phones in a rather sparing manner – perhaps a couple of phones each quarter here and there, and there will only be a massive “update” so to speak from time to time, perhaps once a year. I still remember the stir that the Nokia 8250 caused when it was released, asking us to “walk on the blue side” – after that, there were plenty of third party mods for different Nokia handsets that featured colored LEDs inside the display to emulate the blue shade of the Nokia 8250.

Fast forward to today, and you get tons of phones being rolled out on an almost weekly basis, not to mention having to grapple with this issue known as software updates. Yes, LG’s 3D effort with the aptly named Optimus 3D will finally be getting the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update, where apart from the goodies that Google has packed into this version of their mobile operating system, so too, will LG include their fair share of changes and enhancements. We will look into those in greater detail after the jump.

To put it in a nutshell, you will be able to enjoy enhanced network speed, a better 3D experience and improved multimedia functions with this latest Android 2.3 Gingerbread update. LG’s customized version of this update will also deliver an enriched 3D experience, thanks to the inclusion of the 3D Video Editor and Full-screen UI Preview so that you can create and modify 3D as well as 2D movies right there and then with the Optimus 3D – without the need to transfer videos to a computer and painstakingly making edits back home.

As for the preview screen, it will end up wider with a transparent UI, so that you are better able to capture superior quality 3D content. This new upgrade will also bring along with it improved video recording and longer MP3 playback time just in case you are a song buff. Europe will be on the receiving end of this update first before the rest of the world follows after November 21st.

Water Cannon for next summer

Posted: 16 Nov 2011 04:30 AM PST

I guess if you happen to live in the southern hemisphere, then this £29.99 Water Cannon would definitely be your cup of tea – after all, for folks who are living in areas where the cold chill of winter is setting in, you might not want to run around outdoors soaking wet lest you catch a chill that might last you through the upcoming holiday season. We know that there are super soakers which frankly, are great if you have impeccable aim, because you would naturally run out of ammunition real fast especially if you are trigger happy and are a poor shot. Still, that beats the usual water pistol that is pathetic by today’s standards, and this Water Cannon is definite the ace up your sleeve – all you need to do is mount it on a tripod, and it will be the first water gun in the world that is hooked up directly to your garden hose, now how about that?

You will never run out of ammunition with this puppy, and with a maximum range of 100 feet, you can be sure no one would dare come near your turf – after all, this is a case of defense being the best form of offense.
