What you are seeing here is a project from Microsoft and Carnegie Mellon University, and it could easily be the future.

This OmniTouch has the amazing ability to turn any surface into a touchscreen. All of this is possible with this shoulder-mounted device that is both pico-projector and Kinect.

So if you want to use your hand to run applications, just hold it out and the proper buttons will appear. Forget about a tablet PC, all you need is just a paper tablet!

What I really like is how the user can just go to a nearby wall if they want to see an email. He or she can even finger paint on the wall, using their hand as a palette. Yes, the hand can be used as an interim interface, like when you want to project your display on your desk, for example.

Considering that we didn’t have a lot of the devices that we have now ten years ago (heck, we haven’t even had iPhones for half a decade), one has to wonder where we are going with mobile technology. I can’t help but think that this could be the future, if this shoulder-mounted device was a little bit smaller and less protruding. If it was the size of a button, I’ll bet people would be more open to it.

In the meantime, I am content with sitting back and letting the future surprise me.

iHome iA17 Color Changing Stereo FM Alarm Clock Radio for iDevices

Let’s face it, most of us use an iPhone or iPod as an alarm clock. I suppose that iHome decided to take the impulse and run with it as they have recently released the iA17.

The iA17 has a chameleon-like color-changing ability, and the shifting of the colors of the rainbow can set the mood for sleep. It is possible to make the device pulse very quickly, or very slow at the touch of a button. It even has a “wake to color” feature which displays an array of soothing but energizing lights.

You can also program the device to wake to music on the iPod/iPhone or an FM radio. By the way, the sound on the iA17 is very cool, and it is comparable to the PURE Contour that I reviewed a few weeks ago.

In addition to all these features, the iA17 has some free apps associated with it. In fact, your iDevice will open up to the iTunes Store to the proper apps when you plug it in. You can set and control features on the device right from these apps, as well as set up the alarm and Internet radio.

The AViiQ Smart Case for the iPad 2

Many iPad 2 owners have one of those cool and often colorful Smart Covers that serve as both magnetic screen protector and stand. However, what about the back of the iPad 2? Fortunately, the AViiQ Smart Case for the iPad 2 has the iPad 2′s back.

We are all so busy that we sometimes forget to stop by and smell the roses. Or in the case of city folk, it would involve checking out the vibrant city life and feel its pulse. Well, perhaps there is another way to do so with this particular $89.99 City Lights Globe? There is nothing quite like the imagination of a child to maximize something as simple as a cardboard box, where he or she turns it into a plane, a submarine, a race car, or even a fort. Well, sometimes you might want to encourage even more creative thinking through treats here and there, and I don’t suppose you can go wrong with the $199.95 Children’s Configurable Fort? Yes sir, this building set will allow your kids to explore their construction skills as they work on tunnels, mazes and forts in different configurations.

Small hands are adequate to snap the panels together, where they can create lengths of wall or wrap-around enclosures. With a total of 46 brightly-colored rigid panels to choose from, they can be reinforced by joint attachment clips which will secure the panels in 90° or 180° segments to make sure that such constructions remain standing even during some rough and tumble play sessions. To put it away, the panels will separate quickly, and can be stacked flat ala Ikea style, stashed away into a carrying case.
