Canine Twitterer for human pleasure Posted: 03 Nov 2010 05:35 PM PDT Don’t you find it strange? Dogs don’t need stuff like social networking to keep in touch, as one (loving) master is all they ever need and/or want. I mean, who else is willing to remain cooped up at home the whole day long while you bring home the bacon, only to shower you with slobbery kisses at the end of the day? Such simple joys in life reflected by our four legged friends. We’re pretty sure they would find something like Twitter and Facebook meaningless even if they could read, so one deduction can be concluded from the Canine Twitterer – it is meant more for us humans to have our fun. This tag allows a canine share its hijinks and innermost musings with all its followers on the Twitter microblogging site. A built=in motion sensor and microphone in the tag will “interpret” your pet’s activity, choosing an appropriate canine-centric message from one of 500 pre-loaded tweets. All tweets are sent from the tag to a USB receiver which is connected to your Internet-connected computer within a 100 foot radius, automatically updating their Twitter account. Guess this is good only for indoor dogs and lap dogs, since we don’t think this $29.95 device is waterproof to be used outdoors on extreme trips. Posted: 03 Nov 2010 05:31 PM PDT Everyone remembers 8-bit games, with their super simplistic graphics as well as ditties which tend to stay in your head for hours on end after the game is over and console stashed away. Well, for those who have a soft spot for the 8-bit era, remembering fondly how the soundtrack tends to speed up dramatically whenever you spend too much time in a particular level to add that touch of urgency, enter the 8-bit Watch which will certainly have your fellow video gaming friends clamoring for one as well. This 8-bit styled wristwatch will feature a stainless steel face and ABS band, coming in black or white colors for $69.99 a pop. Strangely enough, being 8=bit doesn’t mean it is digital, so you have a couple of hands to help you tell what time of the day it is. Would be great if it had a button to play musical ditties from classic 8-bit games when pressed. Coolest Gadgets UK – For all your UK centric tech and gadget news. Kingston launches next generation SSDNow V+ solid-state drive Posted: 03 Nov 2010 05:26 PM PDT
What makes the new SSDNow V+100 so special? For starters, it will feature enhanced garbage collection which will not depend on the operating system at all, making it a solid upgrade path to extend the life cycle of older client systems. As for the V+100’s drive performance, Kingston has managed to eke out another 25%, resulting in more efficient data transfer over the previous generation. Not only that, with a new 96GB capacity (something rarely seen these days) model being made available to the family, enterprise customers now have more choices when it comes to selecting just the right solution for backing up a plethora of data in their organization. The 96GB figure came about after Kingston’s customers did let them know that they were looking for an SSD solution which sat ideally between 64GB and 128GB capacities, not to mention a price that is easy on the corporation’s coffers as well. To elaborate more on the enhanced ‘always-on’ garbage collection feature, it will cleanse redundant data from the drive in order to prevent performance degradation and maintains the drive over its life cycle. As it operates independently from the OS, it will play nice with modern, TRIM-supporting systems such as Windows 7 alongside old schoolers such as Windows Vista and XP that do not even talk to TRIM. Coming in a 2.5″ form factor, this new series is now available in 64GB, 96GB, 128GB, 256GB and 512GB capacities. Cool Gift Idea: Digital Picture Frames, check out our reviews. Watch this Micromouse do a maze in 5 seconds, eventually Posted: 03 Nov 2010 05:22 PM PDT This micromouse robot competition is some international event that involves a tiny automated robotic mouse that goes through a maze, studying every possible turn, and then restarts, going through the maze as fast as possible. Go ahead and watch the video after the jump so you can see the mouse go slowly through the maze and then speed through it in about five seconds. Granted, it takes a while before the video gets to that point, but this is one of those vids where you want to see all the opening acts before the final show. There are a couple of things worth noting. You will see that the mouse takes paths that you probably wouldn’t take if you were actually going through a maze like this. I mean, what human would deliberately go down a clearly visible dead end? The other thing to notice is that you, as a human being, could probably not remember as good as this micromouse here. Just try running through a maze and figuring out where to go, without a pen and paper or even a piece of string. Then try starting from the very beginning and run it in five seconds. The last thing that you should notice is the lower right hand corner. The letters “A-L-F” are clearly seen. Some maze-maker a big ALF fan? Ha-ha! I kill me! (That’s from the TV show ALF in case you didn’t get that joke.) R.A.T.9 wireless professional gaming mouse from Mad Catz begins to ship Posted: 03 Nov 2010 05:18 PM PDT
I have always maintained that gaming peripherals are a two-eged sword, if you win more games, you can always cite your victories to superior hardware, and if you lose despite having the best hardware, it will definitely be a big blow to your ego since you will be left wondering whether gaming is the right career path for you. Mad Catz joins the gaming fray with their latest offering, the R.A.T.9 wireless professional gaming mouse that has started to ship. It will join the already available Cyborg R.A.T 7, 5 and 3 gaming mice, where you will be able to enjoy high performance 2.4GHz wireless technology that delivers an estimated latency of less than 1 millisecond. It will run off a unique rechargeable lithium-ion battery pack that is capable of delivering up to 9 hours of game play, where the included stylish desktop charging unit will juice up your battery pack as well as hold another 42 grams of removable weights to suit your gaming style. Each purchase will include a couple of 'hot swappable' battery packs, letting you get your game on for at least 18 hours straight. Don’t worry about stuff like RSI with the Cyborg R.A.T.9 wireless gaming mouse – it was specially designed with comfort in mind, boasting similar interchangeable palm rest, adjustable pinkie grips, and adjustable length, width and height settings as with its predecessors. Compatible with Windows 7, Vista and XP machines, the R.A.T.9 wireless professional gaming mouse can be yours for $149.99. Interface with 3D Graphics with the axsotic 3D-Spheric-Mouse Posted: 03 Nov 2010 04:55 PM PDT One of the problems with computer mice is they are made for a two-dimensional world. You can go along with length and width, but if you want your cursor to travel on a z-axis, picking it up isn’t going to make a bit of difference. Of course, most of us are quite satisfied with a two-dimensional screen. However, those who are in computer graphics have to work in a 3D world. Fortunately, there is a mouse for that. This axosotic 3D-Spheric-Mouse can be pushed, pulled, and lifted to re-position a model in 3D space. There is a video after the jump so you can see how it works. According to my Source, this 3D-Spheric-Mouse “allows for 1,000 dpi optical precision when rotating an object, and 2,170 dpi when panning or zooming. It appears to work with the hundreds of 3D packages currently owned by Autodesk (and presumably 15-20 more since this article was written) plus others that haven't been bought up yet”. This reminds me of the Leonar3Do, which is uses a “bird” as a three-dimensional mouse. Clearly, 3D graphics on every monitor is going to be the wave of the future. I don’t know whether they will be simulated 3D on 2D or holograms, but consumers will demand three-dimensional interfaces eventually. Perhaps axsotic is ahead of the game with this sphere-mouse. 3D-Spheric-Mouse from Valentin Heun on Vimeo. Tech Cult – We cover the latest tech news, but always with a funny twist. iTell Voice Recorder & Story Teller – a picture is worth a 1000 words Posted: 03 Nov 2010 01:17 PM PDT
I love perusing an old photo album, and if I were like my mom, there would be a date and a paragraph on the back of each picture explaining what each one was. Boring, tedious and you have to pull the pictures out of the book just so you can remember the scene. Not anymore! I've found the coolest thing to hit your photographs since color. The iTell Voice Recorder & Story Teller. This neat little gadget enables you to record a voice message about each photo contained in your album. First, you attach specially coded stickers to the photos and then scan each one with your iTell, it will then allow you to record your audio description of the pictures one at a time. When you go back over the pictures, each one will have a story to tell. I can see a few of these in my gift giving future, imagine Grandma reliving her trip to Disney with my daughter by seeing the pictures while my little girl "tells" the story. Priceless, and at about $100 dollars, perfect. The iTell Voice Recorder comes with 500 stickers, is able to be backed up via USB connection and enables you to enhance photo albums, leave secret notes or even design scavenger hunts.. isn't that cool?
