Hands on with the Energizer Energi to Go Travel Kit

Posted: 14 Oct 2010 04:38 PM PDT

While I was at CTIA Fall 2010 in San Francisco, I got a chance to meet with the Energizer people. They were pretty excited about their wireless chargers, but they were also showing off their Portable Power Travel Kit.

The Energizer Energi To Go Portable Power Travel Kit has a set up that I have seen before, like on the PowerPak from Technocel.

This kit comes with this rectangular battery unit that you see here. It can be charged up via USB. You can also plug it into the wall or even to a dashboard cigarette lighter. The unit has an indicator with four bars that will all be illuminated when the battery is full.

From there, you can charge a device like an iPod, or something with a mini USB. It has a two other connectors that I don’t recognize, but this product can charge most of the most popular mobile gadgets. This kit also has a travel case that puts the battery and the resultant connectors (including the plug-in) all in one zipper pouch.

It looks like this product would be a good gift for someone who travels, and you should be able to get it at Sky Mall for about $69.99.

Gear Wheel IQ from Brando

Posted: 14 Oct 2010 04:09 PM PDT

I have seen a lot of Rubik’s Cubes and their imitators, and this Gear Wheel IQ certainly seems quite unique in a world of puzzle games.

What makes this puzzle unique is its construction. Some of you might remember back in the early eighties, when Rubik’s cube was at its ultimate prime, an you might have been like me and cheated on a Rubik’s cube by taking it apart.

I don’t think you can take this one apart, and if you did, it would probably be just as puzzling. You see, this Gear Wheel IQ is so named because spinning one side of this particular puzzle box causes another side to turn.

I figure that you would have to be some sort of genius to solve this one. I don’t think that I ever learned how to beat the Rubik’s Cube. It looks like it would be something that would be hard to put into words, and this Gear IQ looks like it requires some sort of complex mathematical formula of some type.

Apparently, there is some sort of turning wheel sound that this makes. It probably sounds a lot like some sort of kid’s toy with a turning dial. You should be able to get the Gear Wheel IQ from our friends at Brando for about $11.90.

Hands on with the Aluratek AUH100F USB to HDMI 720p Adapter

Posted: 14 Oct 2010 03:40 PM PDT

Some of you might have a Desktop or Laptop that you might want to see on your big screen TV, and Aluratek has the USB to HDMI 720p Adapter that you would need for that.

I had a chance to try out the AUH100F USB to HDMI Adapter, and I found it pretty handy for getting what is on my computer on the big screen.

Set up was pretty simple, but it required me buying HDMI cable, something that I didn’t have on me. I had some trouble on set-up connecting with my computer’s USB, but the CD Rom was there to smooth that out. It wasn’t as easy as plug-and-play.

I was able to get the 720p resolution with good sound, but I had one small problem: my television is a widescreen. So when my Windows were on my TV, Maximizing them made them so large that I couldn’t see the menu bar.

I had to shrink it up, but it was good enough to get hulu.com on my television, which was my main reason for getting this adapter.

So if you are in the market for trying to extend your desktop screen, or you want to simply put your laptop on your HDTV, this is probably the product for you. It has a limited 1 year warranty, and it costs $79.99.

Retro Flip Down Clock

Posted: 14 Oct 2010 03:11 PM PDT

Sure every gadget you own comes with a built-in clock, from the microwave to your cellphone, it’s hard not to always know the time.  However, if you’d like something a little more old fashioned then this Retro Flip Down Clock could be a nice break from the digitized lives we lead.  Instead of staring at an LCD screen with boring digital numbers you could pick this clock up that actually has character.

It works exactly like you’d guess a flip down clock would.  The little plastic pieces just flip as the time changes, it’s pretty basic stuff.  It runs with gear operated time machinery and with a single D battery can run month after month after month.  You can pick up one of these for $36.64 through Chinavasion.  Of course like all Chinavasion products if you order in bulk it gets a bit cheaper.

Kitchen Laptop Stand does double duty

Posted: 14 Oct 2010 03:03 PM PDT

This is definitely a device with my name on it.  Despite that I’m a great cook I have the ability to absolutely destroy the kitchen even when I’m making the most simple of ingredients.  It’s just a talent of mine.  This laptop stand was made for those types in mind.  If you enjoy reading your recipes off of a laptop you can feel safer knowing that there is a barrier between the laptop and certain death it would find in the kitchen.  Plus, it can even be used for cookbooks.

I don’t know about anyone else, but I have to be careful with my cookbooks.  I’ve already managed to permanently fuse a page or two together from spilling ingredients.  This easily converts to double as a cookbook stand and a protector for it as well.  Thanks to the design of the stand it’ll allow for you to alter the angle in which you view your laptop.  You can pick up one of these for $35.95 through Amazon.

Solar Power Auto Cooler

Posted: 14 Oct 2010 02:29 PM PDT

Although you can’t exactly switch your entire world of gadgets into solar-powered ones, you can certainly take care of the smaller gadgets.  Having some sort of a fan to keep you cool when you’re not in the mood for air conditioning requires you to use more power from your car.  However, if you picked up this Solar Power Auto Cooler you could easily handle taking some edge off of that heat.

You might not use it in place of your air conditioning all of the time, but sometimes that cold air isn’t necessary.  For those times when you just want air flow this would work a whole lot better.  Plus it’s the perfect solution for pet owners that sometimes leave their dog in the car for short periods.  This isn’t the first solar fan for your car that’s been released, but it’s a whole lot cheaper than previous models.  You can pick up one of these for £12.95 or about $21 through the Ethical Superstore.

Green Monster Talkatoo

Posted: 14 Oct 2010 01:00 PM PDT

No, don’t get mistaken by the Green Monster Talkatoo – it ain’t no cockatoo. Definitely worth looking into if you want something to spruce up your coffee table with something different. The Green Monster Talkatoo might seem rather menacing at first glance, but it works along the principle of giving out what you feed it – in this case, verbally. The Talkatoo is able to let your friends and family hear that you love them, or even when you miss them. Basically, it comes in the form of a necklace and has a little button that will record a 30-second voice message. Hitting the large button will let you hear your recorded message being played back, and you can repeat it as many times as desired, depending on how much battery life it has left within. Featuring high gloss, scratch resistant ink graphics which is applied to both sides of the pendant, the Green Monster Talkatoo retails for $16.99.

SteelSeries jumps aboard Medal of Honor bandwagon

Posted: 14 Oct 2010 12:30 PM PDT

If you were a gaming peripheral company, what would be the best way for you to introduce a new peripheral to the market? Why, we would think that one of the more ingenious methods would be to tie in your product launch with that of another game title that is so hotly anticipated, even grandmas won’t mind lining up for days to purchase a copy for their beloved grandchild (and themselves, of course). Sure, the latest Medal of Honor offering didn’t exactly come with an iPhone-like frenzy with queues starting a few days earlier, but it sure was a highly anticipated title. What better way than for SteelSeries to jump aboard this goodwill bandwagon by offering a slew of peripherals that might just make you drop some serious coin? More on the individual peripherals in the extended post.

First of all, we have a couple of distinct SteelSeries gaming keyboards up for sale – the SteelSeries 6Gv2 mechanical keyboard Medal of Honor Edition and the fully customizable SteelSeries Shift Medal of Honor Edition. The former is more or less similar to Wolverine of the X-Men fame, featuring a nigh indestructible form factor with 18k-gold plated mechanical switches and anti-ghosting capability that supports as many simultaneous key presses as there are keys on the keyboard. It also features SteelSeries’ Media Controls that delivers more or less instant access to volume, mute and other audio options. It will retail for $99.99/€79.99.

As for the latter, the SteelSeries Shift Medal of Honor Edition Bundle will boast an intuitive button layout, labeled keys and the ability to fully customize and remap the entire keyboard in multiple layers. This one is slightly different in its pricing, where you will pay 99.99 in either American dollars or Euros, depending on the continent on which you reside on. As for those who want to just pick up the Medal of Honor Edition Keyset, it is going for $24.99/€24.99.

SteelSeries’ Xai Medal of Honor Edition mouse will feature a new skin to reflect the colors and tone of the game, and is best used in tandem with the smooth cloth surface of the SteelSeries QcK Warrior Edition mousepad. Both the SteelSeries Medal of Honor Edition Xai and QcK Warrior Edition will retail for $89.99/€79.99 and $14.99/€14.99, respectively. Shame if you got all of the above and yet still lose to a lesser equipped opponent…

Razer unleashes wireless Naga Epic

Posted: 14 Oct 2010 12:09 PM PDT

Razer is no stranger when it comes to high end gaming peripherals, and their latest offering for the masses will target those who enjoy countless hours in front of the computer, hacking and slashing their way to another level. Yup, we’re looking at MMORPGers here today, where they will surely have heard of the Razer Naga mouse before, but this time around it will be a wireless version that brings a whole new level of epic to your MMO gameplay – hence its new name, the Razer Naga Epic. This mouse aims to epitomize the fine balance between keyboard and mouse, boasting 17 MMO-optimized buttons to bring things to a whole new level, thanks to a trio of ergonomic interchangeable side panels that offer an optimal fit, alongside the choice to customize the backglow from over 16 million colors, with a dual mode wired/wireless functionality.

It isn’t just some techie who was smoking on weed to come up with the design though. The final design of the Razer Naga Epic is what it is today thanks to the scientific testing and screening of over 80 different model iterations by Razer's ergonomics team. This includes the button placement as well as their functions, which means the folks over at Razer have really done their homework, and done it well with what we can see. The end result? A mouse that provides a personalized level of comfort, alongside dual wired/wireless functionality and unique MMO-optimized multi-button thumb grid.

Those who own the original need not fret, since a wired version of any mouse is more or less guaranteed to work at all times, as a wireless mouse always runs the risk of it not jiving due to some unforseen circumstance. If you live Stateside, the Razer Naga Epic will arrive there this November for $129.99, making it the cheapest continent to purchase one since those living in Europe will have to fork out €129.99 instead, now how about that?
