Posted: 12 Oct 2010 05:00 PM PDT Love golfing and want to practice with whatever spare time you have? Well, hitting plenty of golf balls on the driving range doesn’t mean your skill would improve, and you will also spend a whole lot on balls as well. The Twilighttracer Golf Ball might offer something different to your game, where a £9.95 ‘investment’ will feature a powerful internal LED that can flash colored lights for up to 5 minutes after you hit it, easily letting you enjoy some golfing during low light conditions. This means you can even enjoy a round of golf late into the night if you are in the mood, since finding your ball long after you drive it far into the green isn’t too hard. Boasting a battery life of 80 hours, you can keep this ball flashing for approximately 1,000 strokes, now how about that? It is also legit to use in games, being the official size and weight of the U.S.G.A. and R&A, while boasting a tough Surlyn cover which prevents it from being damaged and losing its healthy glow. Each purchase will come with a couple of tees and a carrying pouch. Check out the Coolest Gadgets 2008 Gift Guides, Christmas shopping made easy. Posted: 12 Oct 2010 03:29 PM PDT I have never seen a door like this before, and I doubt that the entrance to Diagon Alley from Harry Potter was not as cool as this. This wave of a door was created by Matharoo Associates for some diamond merchant of India. It will open to reveal a wave-like shape that will reconfigure into a sinusoidal curve when any one section is pushed upon. The door is about 17 feet tall, and uses a counterweight with 80 ball bearings and 160 pulleys to create this awesome effect. As I mentioned before, this door was created for diamond merchant in India. I would say that if you ever put this door anywhere, then what is behind it had better be darned impressive. I’m talking about some serious treasure behind it. Normally, if I was doing a report like this, I would probably say something like “enjoy the video after the jump”. Alas, I don’t seem to have video footage of this today. I wish that I did, because I want to see if someone could actually get into the door from the bottom while it remains closed on the top. That, or whether you could climb the door like some sort of stairwell if it was half open. Either way, it is quite cool. Guitar Lamps require you to rock out to dim the lights Posted: 12 Oct 2010 03:17 PM PDT Most dimming lamps make you tap the base to make it dim or turn a knob. However, these lamps force you to play a little tune on those strings in order to make those lights dim down. They’re the perfect way to set the mood for anyone you might drag into your love nest. Then again, you start calling it a love nest or anything along those lines and you might find yourself being the only one willing to enter the room. These guitars have a 3-way dimmer that forces you to strum those strings in order to brighten or darken the lights. There are two different types available, one sits on a microphone stand and the other is a table lamp. Both have a power cord that runs out of the 1/4" jack, making the guitar look even more lifelike. In order to get yourself one you’ll have to pay quite a bit of money. For each one, without the lamp shade it’ll cost you $499. This Bioracer is fueled by wood pellets Posted: 12 Oct 2010 02:59 PM PDT This is the Bioracer from a Swedish Precer Group, and it uses biomass-based powerplants for getting vehicles in motion. It is unique as the vehicle runs on wood pellets, like a stove in a warm living room. The vehicle has a 16 horsepower electric motor which is powered by a “24 to 96 volt, 100 to 400 amp-hour battery pack”. That is just enough power for three hours, and every 3 to 6 pounds of burned wood pellets is good enough for 10 miles of driving. So what is it that we are seeing here? Is this the first of cars that are pellet powered? If so, it certainly isn’t very fuel-efficient. Then again, I’ve noticed that every step to improve fuel-efficiency is always a baby step at best. Are we looking at an age where we go to what was once called a gas station and say: “Gimme four gallons of pellets”. Perhaps in addition to fueling the vehicle, it can heat it as well. Of course, I can’t help but wonder if using wooden pellets would be environmentally friendly. I mean, that wood comes from trees, but I thought one of the whole precepts of saving the Earth was to save trees. Creating wood-based fuel would create a need for destroying more trees. Elecom Plush Toys Clean Your Screens Posted: 12 Oct 2010 02:52 PM PDT I still remember the day that I finally managed to get rid of all of my childhood stuffed animals. For some reason giving a girl a stuffed animal, no matter what her age, seems like a good idea to far too many people. I’ve always said all they do is collect dust. Well it turns out that could come in useful. These plush toys can sit around looking adorable and pay their keep by keeping your monitor screens looking squeaky clean and dust free. There is Groomy and Baby Groomy to wipe your screens clean. Be it your laptop, LCD monitor or that massive flat screen in your living room, this will do the job. The belly itself features special soft tissue that is made to handle screens, so I wouldn’t advise using just any old stuffed animal for the job. There are 18 different versions of these cute dogs, including a pink version. You can check them out by heading here. Pseudomorph self-painting dress Posted: 12 Oct 2010 02:32 PM PDT Okay, what is the first thing that comes to your mind when you see this picture? For me, it was: “Prom Night for The City of the Lost Children“. This is the pseudomorph by Anouk Wipprecht, and the name is one of the most science-fiction terms for any product that I have ever heard. All those thin tubes that you see coming from the back and ending at the shoulders are a way of holding the color-changing ink. In the back are pneumatic control valves for pumping the ink and creating a unique pattern on the dress. Check out a video of it after the jump. In case you are wondering, there is a plastic covering on the ladies…chest so that the ink does not stain her…(oh, I’ll just say it) boobs. These ink sprayers are powered by nothing more than a 9-volt battery. I’m not certain if the ink pattern is permanent, or if it is supposed to be painted over and over. It does create a unique pattern, but does the wearer really need to have these crazy pumps on their shoulders? I can’t think of anyone I know who would want this. However, this is crazy enough to be something that Lady Gaga would wear. Samsung has new firmware for NX10 camera Posted: 12 Oct 2010 04:47 AM PDT
Basically, with firmware upgrade 1.20 installed, NX10 camera owners are able to control the camera's settings conveniently and intuitively from the lens itself. This is definitely something new since it isn’t possible at all on other camera lines at the moment, although things might just change in the future. Conventional lenses, needless to say, are passive in controlling camera settings, but the special i-Function Lens is one proactive lens which will communicate with the camera body itself. Apart from that, the NX10 will also deliver total image control with a remarkably easy way to control camera settings, leading even beginners to obtain quick image capturing, while being provided with customized settings optimized for the lens being used. Samsung has also taken the initiative to ensure all NX system lenses launched from now on will feature the i-Function capability. This convenient one-touch button is capable of activating common shooting controls including aperture, shutter speed, ISO and white balance, translating to an easier and quicker configuration whenever you’re out capturing your subject. Whenever the button is pressed, the shooting parameter will be displayed on screen via a graphical cue. Rotating the manual focus ring on the lens will change the said value. In addition, firmware upgrade 1.20 also delivers a speedier AF speed on the camera. Makes you want to run out and purchase that NX10 now, eh?
