Finis Swimsense watch tells you about your swimming

This is the Finis Swimsense wrist-worn performance monitor, and it is made for swimmers.

It has some sort of internal motion sensors, and I cannot believe how accurate they area.

Apparently, the Finis Swimsense can detect how many laps that you took, and what pace that you took them at. It can even calculate how many strokes you took to get there, and what you were doing. I guess your arm reacts differently when you do the breaststroke, as opposed to the freestyle, backstroke or butterfly swimming. This is provided you enter in the proper information about the pool like its length and such.

The Finis Swimsense will also show you how many calories have been burned after you get out of the water.

Okay, this leads me to wonder how in the world the Swimsense can do this. I mean, the difference between swimming strokes is just a few subtle wrist movements, and yet the Swimsense can know this.

I suppose that we are getting to an age where our sensors can sense about anything! Perhaps those pedometers are actually as good as they are advertising these days.

The Finis Swimsense is slated for a release in time for the holidays for about $199.99.

U.bo Pet Robot

Take a look at this particular Virtual Pet known as the U.bo. I’m not certain how to pronounce the toy from Taiwanese electronics company Phison, but it certainly can do a lot.

I realize that you might not be able to read the print from an image I took that was clearly larger, but let me list out the features. It has a 121 pixel LED screen that can display emotions and actions. There is some sort of “advance emotion display” as well as a “multi-touch sensing system”.

Apparently, you have to keep your U.bo fed with cookies in order to keep it in a good mood. This allows the U.bo to belch, pass gas, and do all sorts of things that Furbies can do.

It can also sing and dance, and the thing has six legs that can apparently move. The thing is remote controlled through Bluetooth, apparently by mobile phone.

Like some mobile phones, the U.bo has a has an accelerometer, so it can sense motion. You can spin your U.bo, and it will get quite “dizzy”. Also, two U.bo robots can be brought together, so they can “kiss”.

According to my Source, it will be on sale in Taiwan and Europe for about $28. No word on whether or not it will be coming to the states.

Sonic Nausea device could induce puke

We’re not too sure what something like the Sonic Nausea device is doing in the open market – shouldn’t stuff like this be banned? After all, the rather deadly combination of high frequency soundwaves that will result in the majority of people who hear it to feel queasy or suffer from headaches, intense irritation, sweating, imbalance, nausea and vomiting sounds (pun intended) as though it belongs to the military or riot police and not in the hands of pranksters. To make matters worse, the nature of its sound makes it all the harder to track down if the device is hidden. Perhaps the 9V battery which it is connected to will be able to provide enough juice to run for hours on end – making it the ideal tool to have everyone in the immediate office feel sick to call it quits for the day. This $29 device could be a practical joke pushed too far, don’t you think?

Pure System sanitizes kitchen items

Every so often you come across something online that just sets off a few red flags. You’re constantly having small facts thrown at you in articles and through random research that you do online to settle silly debates. Yet every so often, you get that inkling of a hint that something seems fishy. Although I’m all about this concept design, I really doubt parts of their facts. Either way though, having something to keep your kitchen sanitary could be handy.

"The research" showed 10 areas that were bad as far as bacteria goes, such as a sponge, dishcloth, chopping board and refrigerator. They then go on to say that the dishcloth and cutting board are difficult to sanitize and I’d have to disagree there. A cutting board you just have to know the right chemical to use and a dishcloth just gets thrown in the laundry. It’s entirely possible though that they know something I don’t, but none of my quick google runs have revealed any red flags over dishcloths. However, if you just want a different way to clean flat objects, then this is a perfectly reasonable choice. When it’s working it feeds the object through the machine and cleans as well as dries it. Being still a concept from Chang Shin Gwak, this isn’t up for purchase just yet though.

Looking for a new USB device to go along with your desktop? Well, you might want to consider the USB Battleship Hub then as this specially designed computer peripheral by Giffin' Termeer for Kikkerland is more than capable of keeping your armory of flash drives connected to your computer, not to mention other USB devices and peripherals as well. Since the USB Battleship is hot off the oven, it isn’t available for order just yet. We could be looking at something that won’t break the $20 mark, but then again we guess in this capitalistic world, anything’s possible if there is adequate demand and not enough supply. Let’s hope you can keep up with the rest of the naval theme on your desk area after purchasing this to add some color and identity to your cubicle.

Show your virtual girlfriend a good time at Atami

This photo is being taken at a hot springs resort known as Atami, and this man is having his picture taken next to his virtual girlfriend.

Yes, this man is playing an extended version of the Nintendo DS game Love Plus Plus. The players of this game must keep their virtual girlfriends happy by throwing them birthday parties, going out on dates, etc.

Atami seems to be targeting their Love Plus Plus package as some very odd way of letting people spend time with their virtual girlfriends. There are about 12 spots at Atami with these augmented reality markers, and this one is a large pine tree known as Omiyanomatsu, a famous tree in a novel The Golden Demon by Koyo Ozaki.

This celebration of virtual girlfriends began on July 10, and already ended. More than 200 people came to the town for this, and it has drawn in about 2,000 visitors to the resort town overall.

Okay, this is probably the time to comment on virtual girlfriends. I’m not going to say what many would probably say about this. I’ll let you be the judge of this, just like I let you judge that exercise program with a mobile phone.

Still, a resort that sets up a romantic theme for those with virtual girlfriends? I don’t know what that says about us as a human race.

Canon EOS 60D DSLR ready to rock and roll

Are you in the market for a new DSLR, but am not quite sure on which model to purchase? Well, the new Canon EOS 60D DSLR might just fit the bill, considering it will be able to deliver high-quality digital capture as well as skillful post-processing that will deliver superior end results, not to mention better control over in-camera image processing which translates to less time editing and more time shooting. Apart from that, Full HD video recording capability is also thrown into the mix, with manual audio level control and flexible LCD displays adding to the EOS 60D’s desirability.

One of the things that make the EOS 60D DSLR special would be the inclusion of a three-inch Vari-Angle Clear View LCD display, Creative Filters for easy image manipulation, Full HD video recording with manual overrides, and in-camera functionality for RAW image processing. Meant for advanced amateurs, those who are just starting out in the world of digital photography might want to consider other models such as a Micro Four Thirds camera. Meant to take over where the EOS 50D left off, its large Vari-Angle LCD display boasts anti-reflective and smudge-resistant coatings, making it ideal for composing low-angle or overhead shots without missing a beat.

It’s new Multi-Control Dial also sees a Multi-Controller and Set button located within the Quick Control Dial, helping to streamline camera navigation for vertical as well as horizontal shooting while obtaining a cleaner camera design simultaneously. Canon also heard their customers, and will introduce a locking mode dial that makes camera operation a whole lot more secure as it prevents inadvertent changes to the photographer's selected shooting mode. Among the other in-camera RAW image processing features include Picture Style, White Balance (WB), Color Space, High-ISO Noise Reduction, Peripheral Illumination Correction, linear distortion correction and chromatic aberration correction. There is also a new Aspect Ratio feature that lets the Live View screen can display cropping lines for 1:1, 16:9 or 4:3

aspect ratios, apart from the regular 3:2 ratio. These cropping lines do tremendously help one to compose images in Live View. Expected to hit the US at the end of September, it will cost $1,099 for a body-only configuration, while a kit version with Canon's EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS zoom lens will cost you $1,399.

Kodak has brand new all-in-one printer

Kodak has just announced their latest line of innovative All-in-One (AiO) Inkjet Printers, which is the ESP 9250. No, this model will not come with Extra Sensory Perception, but is instead a low cost ink system that does not compromise on results, making it one of the better value-for-money prospects out there in the market. After all, the Kodak ESP 9250 printer comes with Kodak’s proprietary pigmented inks which are capable of delivering brilliant colors and permanence to last a lifetime – subject to certain conditions, of course. Weatherproof Wireless Rock Speakers

We know that kids these days who have had a taste of modern video games will probably pooh pooh the 8-bit and 16-bit titles of yore, mainly because there are no snazzy 3D graphics to look at. Well, that’s because they have a choice, but bundle them into a car on a 3-day long road trip and see whether they will change their mind or not. Instead of looking out the window and going through their favorite movies time and again, why not “torture” them with this product from Chinavasion? It is an in-car AV entertainment system which will swap out headrests on the front seats for two DVD players that have an LCD display, an FM transmitter and an NES/SNES emulator for the kids to enjoy, although the generic looking gamepads will make you lose some of that authentic feel. Heck, your $175 purchase even comes with a CD full of 550+ classic ROMS – of course, the legality of the situation is rather questionable. Perhaps this would help them appreciate Zelda in his 2D glory.

Epson has two more projectors for the market

Epson seems to do really well in the projector market, churning out new models time and again, making them the number-one selling projector brand worldwide. Well, they certainly aren’t going to rest on their laurels, having announced a couple of affordable, feature-packed and easy to use projectors which will target both small and medium-sized businesses. We will look at the Epson PowerLite 1220 and the PowerLite 1260, where the former will cost $649 while the latter is a Benjamin more expensive. The PowerLite 1220 will feature XGA resolution, while the PowerLite 1260 has a higher resolution at widescreen WXGA, boasting 16:10 aspect ratio in order to fully utilize the capabilities of a widescreen notebook. Both models will sport 2600 lumens color and white light output that ought to make them suitable for bright presentations and true-to-life color. We will look at both models in greater detail after the jump.

First off, the Epson PowerLite 1200 series will deliver features which are found in higher end models most of the time, and we’re talking about the presence of USB Plug ‘n Play Instant Setup which can instant projects images and presentations from a PC or Mac machine using nothing but your humble USB connection. This works great when traveling from place to place doing presentations, since you no longer need to deal with bulky VGA cables and toggling between computer keys. Apart from that, both models will also sport another USB port for direct connection of a USB memory device, giving even those with no netbooks or notebooks to present a slideshow. As for the more expensive PowerLite 1260, it is equipped with an HDMI audio/video connection for delivery of high-definition video content for powerful entertainment possibilities.

Among their other features include :-

Sony rolls out new DSLRs

Sony is back in the digital camera game, introducing new models which are powered by the world’s first translucent mirror technology that paves the way for simultaneous auto focus and capture in an interchangeable lens digital camera. These new models are capable of deliver continuous phase detect AF during 10 fps High-Speed Shooting and Full HD Movie Shooting moments. The two models that we’re talking about would hail from the Alpha range, where they are known as the SLT-A55V and the SLT-A33. Just what is Translucent Mirror Technology, you ask? More on that in the extended post.

Translucent Mirror Technology basically delivers performance that was previously unattainable with traditional DSLR technology. Both the a55 and a33 models are able to continuously and quickly focus (with TTL phase-detection) while shooting stills and recording video, even when you decide to take the full HD route, letting desired moments to be captured in tack sharp focus, high-definition video. As mentioned earlier, they are able to shoot continuously at up to 10 frames per second on the a55 (the a33 can muster up to seven only though), making them the fastest shooting speeds in the industry for an APS-C size sensor-equipped interchangeable lens cameras that do not cost more than $1,000.

The translucent mirror will enable light to pass through the lens in order for it to be simultaneously received by the image sensor and the auto focus sensor, which in turn enables continuous shooting and continuous focusing at speeds never before possible. Since there is no longer any need to raise and lower the mirror between shots, such technology enables one to focus while images are captured – something existing systems cannot do. They will also feature continuous Advance Priority AE Mode and can automatically adjust for the best exposure to help you get the most professional looking results. The inclusion of Full-time Live View also delivers unprecedented freestyle shooting versatility with fast, precise AF using either the viewfinder or LCD monitor. These new camera models will play nice with both Memory Stick PRO Duo and SD/SDHC/SDXC memory card formats for added versatility. The Sony a55 and a33 cameras will retail for around $750 and $650, respectively for only the body – if you want to include the 18-55mm zoom lens, that will cost you another $100.
