Posh Lamp looks more like an old cassette player

Posted: 17 Aug 2010 03:08 PM PDT

This is one of those lights that you’re probably either going to love it or hate it.  I don’t see a whole lot of middle ground going with this one.  It’s a light that normally would be considered a portable light by the looks of it.  However, despite the very square portable look it’s actually a full on lamp, complete with a fancy chrome stand.

Really for me it looks more like a music player I would have had when I was a kid.  The lamp has a total of 20 little LED lights that are energy efficient by their very nature.  It also has a 3-way switch to finish it off.  This is a design by Aissa Logerot.  Those of you that love the simplistic design will have to wait around to see if this one actually makes it to the purchasing stage of things.

Weed Whacking Golf Driver for the noncommittal golfer

Posted: 17 Aug 2010 02:00 PM PDT

Let’s face it, not all golfers are the serious types.  Some of them are just out for a day of goofing around with good friends.  Now this Weed Whacking Golf Driver might be appalling to slip into a serious game of golf (if you could even succeed at it), but for the relaxed game your buddies might even start requesting to borrow it.  After all, a little beer and a round of golf calls for a couple of short cuts throughout the game.

To work this handy little club you just flip a button and the plastic bottom flips open.  It has a single string trimmer that probably won’t work to take out any serious weeds.  If the grass is just getting a little tall it’ll work just fine for that though.  There are two thumb buttons built into the handle to activate the trimmer.  In order to keep the club powered it’ll need 6 AA batteries.  You can purchase it for $39.95 through Hammacher Schlemmer.

Solar Lantern expands and collapses

Posted: 17 Aug 2010 01:08 PM PDT

Solar lanterns are neat and can be very handy for some quick lighting when you need it.  However, you might not want them on display at all times.  For those cases you might look into this collapsible design.  It’d be great for when you’d like to take them camping or just don’t have a designated outdoor area that you always sit within.

This is definitely a design made with those in mind that are low on extra space.  The lantern can shine at night whenever you need it.  Then when it’s during the day you can close it up.  It has a handy little magnetic strap that’ll let you keep it hung up while it’s getting a little bit of a charge from the sun.  It’s a design by Jesper Jonsson, so as of now it’s not actually up for purchase.

Paper Jamz accessories hit the UK market

Posted: 16 Aug 2010 06:15 PM PDT

Remember the paper guitar which we covered in May earlier this year? Yes, your Paper Jamz guitar will no longer be lonely, not when they have the Paper Jamz accessories released to let you pump up the volume and lose yourself in a jam session (whether alone or with your mates, it is totally up to you) until the police come knocking on your door to ask you to tone it town. The £14.99 Paper Jamz Amplifier will come in a quartet of classic designs, and will be able to be plugged into your Paper Jamz instrument (or portable media player if it is compatible), allowing you to crank up the volume in a rich sounding manner. As for the £24.99 Paper Jamz Drum, this touch-sensitive kit-on-a-mat has a built-in amp, allowing you to tap along to several preloaded rock classics. Individual song rhythms can be controlled with your fingers without the need for drumsticks. The £4.99 Paper Jamz Guitar Strap does nothing but make you look better. Who would have thought folks would prefer to wear paper over bling?

Diggin Squap could be a hit with kids

Posted: 16 Aug 2010 06:00 PM PDT

Want to get a new kind of toy for your bored kids who think that they have seen it all, and much prefer to remain cooped indoors at all times with their favorite video games without having to come out of their room? The $24.99 might just change their mind though, as it will net them the Diggin Squap – a new kind of toy that is fast gaining traction in Europe. All you need to do is wear it like a baseball glove, where opening the snap trap will launch the ball in the direction of your choosing. You can also catch a ball with the snap of your hand, and the entire idea of this would be to help kids learn hand-eye coordination and timing while encouraging active play. Each purchase will come with two snap traps and four balls to get you started. You can even play with yourself against the wall whenever the weather doesn’t permit, but that could be quite sad.

Panasonic VIERA GT25 expands full HD 3D plasma TV market

Posted: 16 Aug 2010 05:44 PM PDT

So you’ve decided to settle for a plasma TV after thinking long and hard between a LCD, LED and plasma displays to adorn your spanking new home. Right after you have made your decision, another one beckons – will your plasma TV be 3D capable or not? After all, if you’re going to blow good money on a TV, why not go the whole nine yards and get the best? Panasonic might just have the affordable answer for you with the Panasonic VIERA GT25 full HD 3D plasma TV range, where it will come in 42″ and 50″ display sizes. The smaller TC-P42G25 will retail for $1,699.95, while the obviously larger TC-P50GT25 will be slightly more expensive, having been tagged at $2,099.95. Both models will hit the market later this month, so you just have around 2 more weeks to make sure that your bank account is able to accommodate this new purchase without the missus raising a ruckus on the family finances.

One thing about 3D TVs would be having to purchase additional eyewear, although some 3D TVs do come with a pair of glasses to get you started right out of the box. Sad to say, Panasonic’s VIERA GT25 does not fall under the latter, but will require you to fork out even more dough to purchase Active Shutter 3D Eyewear which is required for viewing 3D content. Of course, these two are smaller models in the family, as for those who have the budget as well as living room space can always check out Panasonic’s VIERA VT25 series that comes in 85-inch class, 103-inch class and 152-inch class professional Full HD 3D Plasma models.

Despite being one of the more affordable models in the market, they will not skimp on performance, since they will also come with many of the same innovative features found on the critically-acclaimed VIERA VT25 models such as Panasonic’s proprietary IPTV functionality, VIERA CAST that delivers USB connectivity which in turn makes room for a wireless LAN adaptor if and when required, keyboard and USB memory. You can also enjoy your favorite entertainment sites online including Amazon Video-on-Demand, Netflix, Google’s YouTube, Picasa Web Album, Bloomberg, Pandora, Twitter and a weather service, not to mention accessing Skype. Since typing input into a TV can be quite frustrating and slow, VIERA CAST’s interface has implemented quick keyword input to retrieve favorite content faster and easier.

MSI announces FX600 notebook

Posted: 16 Aug 2010 05:31 PM PDT

MSI, the Taiwanese computer manufacturer, has done its bit this time around to introduce another notebook which aims to bring a balance between performance and entertainment with their latest MSI FX600 notebook. This 15.6″ machine will target folks who want nothing but the best in entertainment and productivity, of course, when they call it the “best” in their books, do take that with a pinch of salt since you won’t be able to eke out high end audio performance for example, despite it sounding above average when compared to other different notebooks. Thanks to the powerful Intel Core i5 processor running from within which is complemented by MSI's own Turbo Drive Engine (TDE) technology, one will be able to enjoy a powerful multimedia experience that is also supported by collaboration with internationally renowned sound system expert THX.

When it comes to graphical performance, you won’t find the FX600 short of breath. After all, it comes equipped with MSI's very own GPU Boost technology alongside a high-end NVIDIA GeForce GT 325M discrete graphics card that has 1GB of display memory. The FX600 is capable of automatically switching between the integrated and discrete GeForce GPU as and when required, making sure you get maximum battery life without compromising on performance, ensuring you will be able to enjoy superior sound and visuals the way MSI intends you to.

Apart from Intel's Core i5 processor, the Intel Turbo Boost and Intel Hyper-Threading technology will be able to let the notebook handle more data in a much more efficient manner. As mentioned, theater-grade THX smart surround sound has also been integrated for that realistic movie going experience, alongside Smart Volume and Surround technology for crisp, clean sound for music and movies. With MSI's own Turbo Drive Engine technology, the FX600 can throttle up performance on-the-fly with a single touch of the hotkey. A nice touch is the built-in HD Webcam that offers clear and smooth video and picture quality alongside exceptional audio effects in 720p resolution. Expect to fork out $899.99 for the MSI FX600.
