StudioCruzer Heavy Duty Camera and Laptop Case Posted: 13 Aug 2010 02:43 PM PDT If you’re protective of your portable electronics, then it’s tough finding a serious case to keep them all safe. For those of you that have an Apple laptop and a DSLR camera with plenty of lenses and attachments, there is this case. It looks like something they’d use in the military to carry some important weaponry. Instead it’s a heavy duty case that’ll make sure to keep your electronics safe and sound. Although it’s a Camera and Apple Laptop Case, you can put a laptop of any brand into the case as long as it’s 17" or less. On the lid itself there is a cushioned area to keep your laptop, then in the bottom is an area for your camera and all the little pieces you carry with you. The camera area is completely customizable, so that you can make sure that the items you need will fit properly. You can purchase one of these PSC200 StudioCruzer Carry-On Cases for $240. Posted: 13 Aug 2010 01:47 PM PDT Two great things to pick up for every college student is a mini fridge and a dry-erase board. Then again those are items that could come in very handy later on in life as well. Instead of having a dry-erase board and a mini fridge, you might as well pick up a mini fridge that can double as a dry erase board. Thankfully there is this tiny affordable fridge that’s already up for sale in time for school to start. It looks just like an ordinary mini fridge. It looks so similar that you might start an epidemic of people writing on normal fridges in hopes that they’ll be just as erasable. With this fridge you could write yourself out notes or leave a note for your roommate that you’re out of a certain refrigerated item. The 1.7 Cu Ft fridge can be purchased for $99.99 through Meijer. Posted: 13 Aug 2010 12:37 PM PDT Luggage tags are handy to help your luggage make its way back to you should it get separated from you. However, that tiny little tag only leaves room for an address, your name and an email. There are times when you might want more information listed, for those occasions, you could add some extra information on the flash drive itself. If you’re a student and want the suitcase sent to a different address than your parent’s address. You can always include certain details like that on the tag. You could even just use it as a normal flash drive when you’re not traveling. They come in bright colors, so you’ll easily be able spot your bag from a distance. Each one of the 2GB drives can be purchased for $29.95. Source: CraziestGadgets Tech Cult – We cover the latest tech news, but always with a funny twist. High voltage power towers that look like men Posted: 13 Aug 2010 05:51 AM PDT You’ve seen giant utility towers before, and they don’t look like this. Their design really is…well, utilitarian. These utility towers are designed by the Massachusetts architecture firm Choi + Shire, and they recently won an honorable mention award at the Icelandic High Voltage Electrical Pylon International Design Competition, as well as an award from the Boston Society of Architects for unbuilt architecture. I believe that this concept project is called the Land of the Giants, and it is very aptly named. What else are you going to call two human-shaped towers that hold up powerlines? I suppose the real question is, would this look good in real life? In all honesty, I can tell you what it reminds me of: Batman and Robin. Yes, the last ever Joel Schumacher Batman film that dared to show Gotham city as this place where statues and buildings were as one. I didn’t see a single high voltage tower in that film, but it would probably look like this. I mean, do we want all of our structures to look like people? I mean, what does that say about us as people, that we like to structure our buildings after our own bodies? That is kind of crazy. Ayn Rand fan literally writes on the globe to show his devotion Posted: 13 Aug 2010 05:34 AM PDT You know those crop circles that you hear about? One theory is that aliens are really trying to write on our landscapes in their own language. Now why would aliens do that, when this man, Nick Newcomen, just scrawled out a message on planet Earth in a human language. You can read it in the photo. Newcomen drove for 30 days, through 30 states, for a grand total of 12,238 miles. He had a Qstarz BT-Q1000X as the medium for his message, and it can only seen with Google Earth with the recorded GPS device data. This is probably the biggest sign in the world. It makes the Hollywood letters look like very fine legal print. Only the Great Wall of China could underline these three words. Just to let you know, the driver didn’t write these words in order. He had to write the word “Rand”, then went north to write “Read”, and managed to do “Ayn”. Clearly the works of Anthem, The Fountainhead, and Atlas Shrugged are worth reading with this devotion. Let’s be glad that his favorite author wasn’t Fyodor Dostoevsky or something even longer. I wonder if he had to go off-road in order to make some of these giant letters. Seriously, are the roads in the United States shaped like letters so well? Leave a comment if you know if anyone else has done something like this. Glass-Bottom Hot Air Balloon ride lets you walk on air Posted: 13 Aug 2010 04:55 AM PDT I realize that glass bottom boat tours can be pretty fun, but this is the first time that I have seen this concept be applied on a aircraft. I’m going to assume that an ordinary plane (or even extraordinary plane) can’t land with a glass bottom. I mean, it would shatter on touchdown! I don’t think this rule applies to a hot air balloon. Christian Brown, the creator of this new type of transportation, says that it is a “terrifying experience” and “not for the feint of heart”. You think so? Even Christian Brown believes this thing is scary, and he has 18 years of flying experience. He has also traveled around the world in a balloon with Sir Richard Branson, and holds the tethered altitude world record at 10,000 feet. This was designed to fly over the Alps, and I’m sure the view is breathtaking. The glass-bottom hot air balloon appeared at the 2010 Bristol International Balloon Fiesta. Man, would I love to try this. Then again, get me high in the air on it, and we’ll see how much I love it. Its one thing to want the latest thrill, and it’s another thing to actually experience it. Of course, a quick landing might be the scariest thing. Intersecting Slot Car And Train Set Posted: 12 Aug 2010 08:13 PM PDT Buses and trains, cars and trucks. These are all favorite playthings for children, so why not get your holiday shopping done earlier this year with the Intersecting Slot Car And Train Set? It isn’t going to be cheap, mind you, burning a cool $299.95 in your pocket in the process, but at least this racing toy will bring together the throttle-happy thrill of a slot car set alongside the steady lumbering of a train set. Thanks to the track’s single intersection, it enables racers to replay that ever tense situation of beating the train to avoid high-velocity impacts, and it will require an innate sense of timing for your competitor to remain stranded at the crossing until the train passes. Hand-trigger controllers will be used to tear around the track’s seven curves, where one of them even includes a 180º hairpin turn for added challenge. The train itself comprises of a locomotive with a working headlight, four freight cars, and a caboose, and it can also move forward and reverse using the included transformer/controller. Each purchase comes with 11 pieces of track for slot car set, 15 pieces for the train set. Looks like kids aren’t the only ones to have fun with this… Coolest Gadgets UK – For all your UK centric tech and gadget news.
