Vlingo unveils SuperDialer for Android devices

Vlingo is a name synonymous with intelligent voice applications that are capable of transforming words into action, where the company has rolled out a spanking new feature known as SuperDialer, targeting Android-powered devices in the process. Of course, as we all well know, Android devices are mostly smartphones, but many of them also come in portable media player or tablet form factors. Well, you can’t call anyone out of a tablet or portable media player, so it is safe to assume that the SuperDialer, as its name suggests, will work only on smartphones. First of all, a little bit of history lesson – the original voice dialer from Vlingo connects users with people from a personal address book, while its new and improved SuperDialer expands on that functionality by accessing an infinite phone book to bridge a connection with any business, anywhere, anytime.

This new function is easily accessible and a cinch to use thanks to Vlingo’s Tap & Speak home screen widget. Using it will instantaneously unlock reviews, ratings, maps and directions in addition to one-click calling. The use of Vlingo does away with the need to access a phone book, call 411 or search the Internet simply to call a business, as they can just speak their wish and the software will go ahead to transform words into actions. It boasts greater flexibility compared to other voice dialing services, where among the phrases you can use include “Call Joe’s Stone Crab in Miami Beach”, “Call dentist” or “Directions to Fenway Park”.

Of course, if calling’s not your thing, you can still use Vlingo for Android for a non-phone Android device. All you need to do is tap on the Vlingo widget to send text and email messages, search the web using Google or Yahoo! engines, update your Twitter status for friends and family to know just exactly what you’re up to, open built-in and 3rd party applications, speak into any application with the Vlingo Everywhere voice keyboard, and hear both incoming text and email messages while you drive thanks to SafeReader.

Too bad Vlingo works only with Android 2.x and above devices, where it will retail for $9.99 per purchase. Well, if it makes your life easier and more convenient, why not?

Aircell offers free in-flight connectivity for new Vibrant owners

This deal was available exclusively from T-Mobile from last week onwards, where each purchase of the Vibrant will be accompanied by a pre-installed entertainment package, not to mention the above Gogo Inflight Internet access that is made available on more than 3,500 daily flights in the Continental US across 1,000 commercial aircraft. Make no mistake about it, there will be additional routes and airline partners offering such a service in due time.

Just in case you were wondering what you would get with the Samsung Vibrant, this is a variant of the Samsung Galaxy S range which recently made a splash across different carriers Stateside, where they were known by different monikers depending on the carrier. It is a high end Android-powered device, running on Android 2.1 (with the promise of Android 2.2 rolling out sometime later this year), where it boasts a 4″ Super AMOLED touchscreen display for a vivid, HD-like viewing experience whether you are surfing the web, watching movies, playing games or reading an e-book.

Lighted Stovetop lets you pick the color

The first keyboard and mouse I owned that actually allowed me to pick the color of the lighting had me captivated. To me it was the greatest invention ever created at the time. Thankfully LED lighting has not been limited to just computer accessories. Sure, there have been times when the LED lights go a little overboard, but in the case of this stovetop, it just enhances the looks.

This bright white style makes your stovetop look a whole lot more modern and chic. If you’re the type that loves to paint and try all different colors just to change things up a little, then this would be a handy item to have around. Not only is it filled with LED lights, but ones that change colors. That means you can change out the coloring time and time again to go with your décor. This is from Gorenje’s "Touch of Light" collection that was designed by Karim Rashid. That sadly means that this will probably be a little hard to get your hands on by being either expensive or just limited in numbers.

USB Bike Generator

Cars get all sorts of adapters to make sure that your devices stay well charged. Unfortunately, bicycles don’t exactly come with those same benefits. That’s bad news for those that are using a bike to get to work everyday. Thankfully one crafty person has created a way to charge up your USB devices while you’re pedaling down the road.

They’ve done it by taking your typical USB car adapter and connecting that to a voltage regulator. The regulator is then in turn connected to a stepper motor mounted onto the rear wheel. Not only does that mean you can charge your gadgets on your way to work, but you can also do it in an eco-friendly manner. The great thing about most stationary bikes is that you get to see how fast you’re going and the actual distance you’d be going if you were in a real bike. Unfortunately no matter how hard you pedal a stationary bike, you’ll still be indoors. Thankfully there is this Schwinn bike computer that lets you have the same information as a stationary bike, except that you still get to be outdoors while you’re exercising.

This wireless computer just requires you to clamp it onto your handlebars right where you can easily read it as you move. It measures your speed by how many times your wheels spin. It also can let you know the distance you’ve gone. Within the computer is a time trial, odometer and training functions. The Schwinn 13-Function Wireless Bike Computer is pretty affordable too. You can pick it up for $18.75 through Amazon.
