HoloAD Diamond Series is one nice holographic display

Posted: 09 Jun 2010 03:36 PM PDT

The HoloAD Diamond Series hologram is yet another reason that I was sad that I missed out on Computex in Taipei last week.

It probably is the best example of a holographic TV to date, and it uses three displays with precisely placed glass plates for a that most incredible 3-D effect that we’ve been wanting in our homes for a long time. The images themselves are Flash video files or FLV files, fed from simple USB memory devices like thumb drives.

It really is pretty incredible that you can walk around it and see a three-dimensional view of whatever object that is there. You will notice that it looks as if the holograms are coming from an iPhone. Somehow, I can’t help but think that this is what Innovision would want to see in the future. After all, who wouldn’t want some serious holograms on their mobile?

By the way, this isn’t just one of those concept models that you may or not see in the future. No, you can get this now in two models: one has a resolution of 640 x 480 pixels, and the other has 1,280 x 1,024 resolution. I don’t have a precise price on it, though. I don’t think I could afford it, though.

Swing Clock hypnotizes guests

Posted: 09 Jun 2010 03:00 PM PDT

If you ever wanted a clock capable of stopping your guests in their tracks, then this is definitely the ticket.  Just seeing the clock out of the corner of my eye while I type is enough to make me just a little bit dizzy.  Sure, it probably won’t put them in a trance, but it’ll at least keep your evenings interesting.  I’d just advise not putting this above the TV or anything else that you tend to look at for long periods though.

This eye catching clock offers quiet and smooth operation and can used anywhere you like.  If you happen to hold some kind of job position with power it’d be fun to put it directly above your head.  Then you can hypnotize all of your employees or at the very least put them in a little bit of a daze.  You can purchase the clock through Think Geek for $19.99.

Escape Rescue System

Posted: 09 Jun 2010 02:54 PM PDT

What you are seeing here is the Escape Rescue System, and it is something that you would use to quickly evacuate people from a high building.

It is also capable for when you need to get several people inside a high building covertly. You can watch a video of it in action after the jump and see a scene of terrorism that looks like it is right out of 24.

As you can see, this Escape Rescue System can attach to the side of a tall building from the room, and this elevator car can expand into five levels of elevator car. Then this five level car is lowered, and SWAT teams can enter in five windows on five different floors, or one team at a time at one window.

It also comes in handy when evacuating people. Just put this thing at five windows, and let the civilians climb in. Hopefully, you can lower this thing down quickly if you need to make another run.

I’m not certain if there is actual working model of this Escape Route System somewhere, as this video looks like more of a proof of concept than anything else.

I can easily imagine every high building having one of these, but I would never want to use it.

The Ledge keeps your desk tiny

Posted: 09 Jun 2010 02:30 PM PDT

Having a desk when you have no extra room in your home is not an easy task.  Thankfully laptops allow you to work on things at your kitchen table instead of being forced to stay at one desk.  However, if you do prefer to have a designated desk area, this simple ledge actually turns into a handy little desk.  It may not look like much, but it keeps a sliding shelf hidden inside.

When it’s not in use your laptop and everything can slip inside on the small laptop shelf.  Then when you need it, it easily pops open again.  On the product page there is actually a video that allows for you to see the desk in action.  In addition to keeping your office area controlled, it’ll help to manage any cables that you might use on the ledge.  Unfortunately, it’s going to cost you a bit of cash to get your hands on this.  Right now it’s priced at $1,500 through Urbancase, but hey, at least that includes shipping.

Sky Factory eScape Display Windows

Posted: 09 Jun 2010 02:20 PM PDT

Sky Factory has made some interesting products, such as the SkyV HD Virtual Skylight, three HD LCD screens made for the ceiling that allow you to watch skies, birds flying over, trees swaying in the breeze, or just about anything else you want to program in it.

The company has taken that concept off the ceiling and applied it to the wall with the eScape. It uses 40-inch 1080p LCDs and even some shutters for added realism.

Of course, you have to ask yourself how real that this is when visitors realize that there is no way that you have a waterfall or beach outside of your cheap apartment. I’m guessing that the best that you are going to get from your guests if you try and fool them is a double-take.

Still, I like the idea of having a breathtaking view that you can change at any given time. My windows in my living room have a view of my neighbor’s place, and it isn’t exactly scenic.

I remember when I reported on the SkyV HD Virtual Skylight, I didn’t have a price, but I knew it was expensive. This time, I’ve got a price on the eScape, and it is quite expensive at $9,750.

T3 Transforming Solar Robot Kit

Posted: 09 Jun 2010 12:56 PM PDT

Instead of creating a car or some boring desktop item to demonstrate the usage of solar power, you should pick up a robot.  This particular robot is a kit that’ll let you or your children learn a little more about using solar power in a much more interesting way.  Plus after you’re all finished building the robot, you’ll have a fun little transforming robot.

The robot can change into a scorpion, a tank and then just the normal robot mode.  After you’ve left the robot in the sun for a while to soak up some sun it’ll be able to move about to keep you entertained.  You won’t need much in the way of tools either for the 70 piece kit.  You’ll just need a screwdriver to assemble the whole thing.  The robot could be used for children 8 and up or you could leave it on your own desk for some entertainment while you’re bored at work.  You can purchase it for £12.99 or about $19.74 through I Want One Of Those.
