Ionic Clean: Use that de-ionized water for cleaning Posted: 31 May 2010 04:08 PM PDT I had a chance to try out the Ionic Clean by Homeright this weekend. This cleaning system uses de-ionizing technology, which can turn ordinary water into a more purified form for cleaning. It comes in that airtank thing that you see here, and it comes with an attachment for your hose. When you turn the water on, you have the option of the de-ionizing (DI) water. Think of it as a soap, but not quite as potent as real soap. You should feel free to add soap to get rid of the real spotted areas on your car, without streaks and no drying required. After you have used the DI water, you can switch to the “rinse” function for some plain and ordinary water on whatever it is that you are washing. You might notice the extended stick with a brush on the end, which comes in handy for DI washes. In short, the Ionic Clean feels like something that you would use at a car wash, but, without the addition of soap, it doesn’t get your car as clean as you might like. Anyway, you should be able to get the Ionic Clean from the Homeright website for about $249. Is that too expensive? Check out the Coolest Gadgets 2008 Gift Guides, Christmas shopping made easy. Posted: 31 May 2010 03:35 PM PDT This is the Swing Beginner concept car. As you can see, even the artistic model is impressed. The Swing Beginner car concept is like nothing that I’ve seen in a car as it relies not on a wheel to steer, but the driver’s leaning. Yes, the driver must lean to go in a certain direction. You might just wonder what the heck this is good for, but as you can see from the diagrams on the photo, it can do some interesting turning. Take that U turn, for example, most cars would require a serious ring around the steering wheel just to go in the other direction. Apparently, only a specific lean is required. I also like the leaning for easy sideways parallel parking. You might wonder why wonder why the word “Beginner” is in the title of this car. That is a good question. I mean, is this meant to be a car for beginners? I would have to admit, I would have to relearn how to drive in order to use this device. Something tells me that a pre-schooler might get in on this action. I think they would be the first to adapt to this new style of steering, provided they have never operated a steering wheel before. Smart Fridge knows how much food is in the fridge, and can make a recipe for it Posted: 31 May 2010 03:08 PM PDT For those of you who can’t figure out what to make for dinner might really like this smart fridge designed by Ashley Legg. This smart fridge knows what is in your refrigerator, and it can figure out from the food within what recipe you can make. It will then display this recipe on a touchscreen panel mounted in the door. Of course, you will have to enter in the ingredients with the touchscreen panel. Yes, entering in the ingredients sounds like a very tedious thing to do, and my source says the same thing. My source also suggested a bar code scanner for entering in your food items. I suppose that would be the fastest way, but I have another way that would save some more time. You see, my wife likes to send me a grocery shopping list via text, and I usually get everything on it. If I were to come home and just wirelessly upload the list to the fridge, that would work. Also, I noticed that this touchscreen panel for entering in the food items is inside the door. Uh, this entering in of the groceries could take a while, and it isn’t good to leave the door open for too long. Cool Gift Idea: Digital Picture Frames, check out our reviews. Diddybeats headphones now available in various colors Posted: 30 May 2010 06:38 PM PDT Monster and Beats by Dr. Dre have come together to bring the Diddybeats pair of headphones Stateside, where it will come in a trio of colors, where they are black, white and pink. Available exclusively at Best Buy and Best Buy Mobile stores, each pair will retail for a pretty pricey $179.95 (relatively speaking, of course) compared to other regular headphones, but you can be sure that with such names behind the hardware, your portable music listening experience will be much better off. Needless to say, this is the latest addition to the hugely popular Beats by Dr. Dre headphone family from Monster, and from the name itself, you can tell that Diddybeats were created in conjunction with music entrepreneur and fashion icon Sean "Diddy" Combs. In fact, to sweeten the deal, each purchase of the Diddybeats will net you a "ticket" with an online promotional code which allows one to receive a free track download of the hit single "Hello Good Morning" from Diddy-Dirty Money's upcoming album Last Train to Paris. You will be among the first to enjoy this song, considering the album itself is scheduled for release on June 28 from Bad Boy Records and Interscope Records. Those who enter their special code can get the free download here. http://diddybeats.com/track/default.aspx. Diddybeats will feature advanced audio technologies which break new ground for in-ear headphone performance, where you will benefit from a combination of the deepest bass tones with the clarity of high frequency production, ensuring that they are the ideal pair for use with all types of music, regardless of whether you are rooting for the hip-hop genre or prefer to rock it out, or even enjoy more mellow jazz and classical tunes. The remarkable sonic performance is made possible courtesy of the use of new materials and innovative patent pending designs, letting users to enjoy details in their music which they may never had heard before. Of course, a lot of it also depends on bitrate quality, so lossless files would do best. Skype enables iPhone owners to make 3G calls Posted: 30 May 2010 06:26 PM PDT Skype has finally brought to life a feature that many iPhone owners had wished for for a long, long time already – we’re talking about the iPhone being able to make 3G calls. Yes, this new version of its application is available from the Apple App Store, where it enables iPhone users to make as well as receive Skype-to-Skype calls, not to mention to call mobiles and landlines worldwide without breaking the bank using nothing but their 3G data connection. Of course, a lot of the call quality depends on your signal strength as well as the amount of network congestion, but I’m sure that most of us won’t mind sacrificing a little bit of quality to save a whole lot of dollars, right? Skype-to-Skype calls on 3G will be available for free at the moment during its trial period, although that won’t be the case once 2011 rolls around. Of course, during this period, each call that you make will still be charged by operators accordingly. There will be more information on pricing in the coming months which will be in line with Skype’s commitment to provide customers with additional value. Skype-to-Skype calls over Wi-Fi, however, will still remain free, so you might want to stick to that option if you’re traveling to a city with plenty of Starbucks and McDonald’s outlets around. Among the new features of the Skype for iPhone application include :-
Bear in mind that this calling functionality is available on iPhone, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS and 2nd generation iPod touch onwards, where the iPod touch requires a compatible headset with a microphone. We do wonder how the original iPhone owners are going to rock with it though, since it maxes out at EDGE connectivity. Tech Cult – We cover the latest tech news, but always with a funny twist.
