Protect 486 puts a protective shell around a scooter Posted: 28 May 2010 04:21 PM PDT This is from designer Marc Graells Ballve, and, as you may have guessed, it is some anti-theft device for scooters. Clearly, the designer gets his inspiration from nature with the armadillo as the armor can retract like that animal’s armor. I have no idea how heavy this armor is, but it looks pretty light, almost like plastic. I’m guessing that it requires some sort of lock at the bottom so the shell is secure. He was obviously inspired by something else, the Batman movie by Tim Burton. Some of you remember in the first film, where Batman says “shields”, and those steel plates come up and protect the Batmobile from theft or people that just want to steal the tires. I remember that the “shield” effect from the film looked a little fake, probably done with stop-and-go animation. The effect was done somewhat better in the sequel, Batman Returns, but it didn’t quite look right. Anyway, this Protect 486 is a good proof of concept at least. I would imagine that it would protect the scooter from the rain, at least. Maybe one day there will be one of these shells on every scooter. Seeing them parked together will be like a giant armadillo invasion. Check out the Coolest Gadgets 2008 Gift Guides, Christmas shopping made easy. Posted: 28 May 2010 03:57 PM PDT I remember I was at some fair, and they had this metal ball thing that people put me in with straps, and then my friends, including my daughter, rolled me. This looks like nearly the same concept as the Rolling Superman Simulator. There is no rolling upside down on this, but the user’s own weight keeps them level as they roll across the ground. Okay, does anyone else think that this looks dangerous? This looks like something that Wile E. Coyote would use to catch a roadrunner, only to have his poor self dragged through the canyon. I also don’t think that you can call this a Superman Simulator because doesn’t Clark usually fly a little higher than 3 feet off of the ground? Maybe this is made for Smallville’s Clark Kent, who, for some odd reason, still hasn’t flown in his nine season series of adventures. Yeah, this is one of those DIY gadgets, and one of those where the kid really wants to try it out, while the parent would want to keep the tykes out of the thing altogether. At least the kid in this photo is wearing gloves so his hands don’t drag on the ground and get “pavement-burn”. I wonder if he is using his hands to guide him along. This is a hoverboard that really works Posted: 28 May 2010 03:34 PM PDT Hopefully, you remember the most recent flying car that we reported on, the YEE. I believe that I mentioned how it is almost 2015, and we don’t have all of the cool stuff shown us in Back to the Future II. Flying cars is just one example, and the other is hoverboards. I once heard that before the successful film sequel was released, there was an attempt to start a rumor saying that hoverboards were real, and that the only reason why they weren’t on the market was because too many parents’ rights groups complained. According to the Back to the Future DVD 3-disk collection, hoverboards are not real, until now, at least. A French artist named Nils Guadagnin has made one, and it uses an electromagnetic system to levitate the board itself and then lasers to stabilize it. Unfortunately, the hoverboard won’t support a human being’s weight as yet. Hopefully this is one technologies that will be improved. I noticed that the artist gave the hoverboard a pink coating. He clearly wants Mattel to pick this up and market it to little girls, like the one in Back to the Future II. Yes, I’m looking forward to a hoverboard in the near future, and who knows, maybe using my foot to propel it will actually work. Cool Gift Idea: Digital Picture Frames, check out our reviews. t’Light can charge multiple gadgets Posted: 28 May 2010 10:45 AM PDT If you’re looking for the most talented light, which who wouldn’t be?! Well then you’re in luck, because t’Light actually stands for the Most Talented Light. Not only does this light illuminate your desk, but it also has a little love for your smaller electronics and cuts down on those obnoxious cords. Don’t worry, it’s not just a concept design either, this one can actually be purchased. On the top is a 3 watt LED lamp that can last about 50,000 hours worth of usage. Then on the base itself there’s a handy little iPhone dock. There’s also a jack powerful enough to power up your laptop and a USB port. Besides the shiny metal look it comes in several other colors like red, black, a horribly bright green, pink, purple and more. The whole thing can be purchased for $89. Posted: 28 May 2010 10:03 AM PDT So you decided to jump on the bandwagon and buy an iPad. Now what? You can’t just slip it into your pocket like the rest of your electronics, but it just seems odd to carry it in a laptop bag. The iPad just doesn’t have a category so it’s trying to attempt to find the proper way to carry it around. Thankfully one suit maker is more than happy to create a custom suit that has a giant pocket on the inside just for your precious iPad. Of course if you’re female, you might not like this one, but it’ll at least work for the suit loving guys out there. In my mind it seems as if the suit would sit a bit awkwardly with an iPad jammed into the pocket of the suit, but perhaps it will fall more naturally than I’m picturing. These are done by Mohan Tailors, but they aren’t actually listing a generic price for the suit just yet. I doubt it’ll be cheap though. Posted: 28 May 2010 08:57 AM PDT Usually when I see a small TV like this I think of kids rooms, but that’s not necessarily fair. The serious sports fans could also get a great deal of enjoyment out of a TV with their favorite game for a frame. Those of you who are soccer or football fans will like this HD TV. It’s the best way to watch the big game if you don’t really want a massively sized screen or need something smaller for a spot like your garage. Also with the same sports themes are monitors that feature soccer, basketball and baseball. The TV itself has noise reduction, a sleep timer and two 10W speakers. It has a contrast ratio of 10.000:1 and the screen measures 27.5 inches or 70 cm. You can pick one up through HannSpree for 499,00 € or about $600. Magellan has new range of RoadMate GPS navigation devices Posted: 27 May 2010 07:07 PM PDT
Apart from that, the whole RoadMate lineup will feature an exclusive OneTouch personalization feature that enables you to save favorite places, categories and searches. Support for spoken street names, 6 million points of interest, QuickSpell for error-free address entry and multi-destination routing are also thrown into the mix for good measure, where you can also take advantage of the specialized parking features including the Automatic Parking Lot Finder that can identify local parking lots once you arrive at your destination. This is a great advantage especially if you are in unfamiliar territory. Not only that, the Find Your Car feature can record the location of your car and direct you to it – perfect in new malls that are absolutely huge and packed to the brim. What we like most would be the high end Magellan RoadMate 3065 Commuter that is capable of waking itself up 30 minutes before your pre-determined commute begins, where it will go about gathering relevant traffic information. This means by the time you are ready to take off in your car, the 3065 Commuter is already loaded with the optimal route for the day’s commute.
