Concept car literally splits in two

Posted: 20 May 2010 04:58 PM PDT

I remember there was a show called Team Knight Rider. Yes, there was a show called Team Knight Rider, and I’m pretty certain that David Hasselhoff would not want to be associated with this. That is saying a lot.

Anyway, the show had a bunch of talking cars, and I believe that it had one car that could split in two, and thus become two motorcycles. Keep in mind, I’m going on what a former roommate of mine had to say about this show.

The reason why I would even dare bring up Team Knight Rider is because it is the closest thing to this concept device that you see above. Read more about it after the jump.

It is a car that can split into two motorcycles. Consider this a “buy one get one free deal”. I suppose you get the frame with the deal, and you’ll have to put it somewhere when you and your friend are riding on the cycles. I suppose you can head for home, link the cycles together, and then go on a drive.

Well, this is still a concept project sponsored by Renault Design, and the designer got his idea form his diploma project at the National Institute of Design.

Buy or Rent the world’s largest airship

Posted: 20 May 2010 04:19 PM PDT

In case you’ve wanted your very own airship, like Max Zorin from that last Roger Moore James Bond film A View to a Kill, then you can get the Bullet 580 for about $8 million.

You can also rent it for about $300,000 month. Of course, you had better have a lot of helium, and a lot of time to inflate it, too. This picture here was taken inside Alabama’s Garret Coliseum. That stadium had better have a retractable roof, because that blimp will never fit through the door.

Anyway, here’s some more numbers on this airship. It can hold up to 2,000 lbs worth of weight and travel 20,000 feet (6,096 m) high, and it can go at 35 miles per hour with a top speed of 80.

Say, you know what I don’t see on this airship? A basket for holding the pilot and other passengers. Does the buyer or renter of this airship have to supply that on their own? Otherwise, you just rented or purchased the largest condom ever.

Okay, that was a cheap stupid joke. Still, I think I long for the days when blimps were in flower, and I wished there was an era where airships ruled the skies. Too bad they can’t make cheaper blimps, eh?

Thrustmaster’s DS Stylus goes to Infinity and Beyond

Posted: 20 May 2010 03:48 PM PDT

We’ve reported on a lot of ThrustMaster gaming accessories before, like the skateboarding controller and some Nintendo DS products.

This stylus could be one of the biggest around. That’s right, that is what you are seeing here, a stylus for the Nintendo DS, not a flashlight.

However, what you are seeing is true about the projection of Buzz Lightyear on the wall. I’m sure this is a definite tie-in with the release of Toy Story 3, which I believe is sometime in June. I’ve seen the preview, and this is the one where Buzz goes back to his “I actually think I’m the real Buzz Lightyear”, but he is in Spanish. Just watch it if you don’t believe me.

You should be able to get this projector stylus for the low price of $7. That seems pretty low, and I hope that it is well constructed, as it reminds me of those electric spinning lollipops that you can find at grocery checkout counters. I always thought those were pretty useless. I mean, seriously, you suck up the lollipop, and then what can you use the spinning thing for afterward?

Okay, I haven’t really used the DS Lite much, and I have no idea if having a bigger or heavier stylus is going to affect your game or not. If you have any thoughts on this, feel free to leave a comment.

The Measuring Light

Posted: 20 May 2010 03:00 PM PDT

Thanks to the rush of eco-friendly products, there have been several very quirky lamps made out of old materials.  Some you wouldn’t be caught dead hanging in your home, but you can’t help but admire the designer’s level of creativity.  If you have a thing for craft rooms or measuring tape, then you’ll love this overhead light.  The shade itself is made out of a whole lot of measuring tape.

These come in a couple different versions, there’s the one that shows off the centimeters and then there’s the inches one.  The tape is hand coiled around a bobbin that also doubles as the lamp’s ventilation system and the structural element.  This was recently featured at the Model Citizens Design Exhibition.  In order to pick up one of the Brooklyn, NY made lights you’ll have to contact them to find out the pricing.

EcoFad Bamboo Lap Desk

Posted: 20 May 2010 02:00 PM PDT

Having a bamboo lap desk means that you get the job of telling everyone just how eco-friendly your tastes.  Yet with this particular one you get to brag about one extra perk.  Instead of having to use the mouse on your laptop, you can look exceptionally superior when you show the versatility of your lap desk.

You see this bamboo wonder actually slides in and out to allow for an extra side area to place your tiny little portable mouse.  Of course this was announced by Macally Korea, which means exactly what you think it means.  Korea is currently the only area that the EcoFad lap desk is currently available.  Then again there’s no word on pricing yet either, so you could always just assume it would have been out of your price range anyway if it makes you feel better.

Clingo Neklit lets you wear your Nano

Posted: 20 May 2010 01:00 PM PDT

The Neklit sounds a bit like Chiclets trying to acquire a new name to win over young children all over again.  Actually the Neklit is a device that turns your little iPod Nano into an adorable geektastic necklace.  You could also call it a lanyard instead if necklace makes you feel just a little too feminine. These Neklits will let you keep your Nano within arms reach and always in sight.

It holds your iPod securely, so you won’t have to worry about it dropping.  Then if you want to keep the pendant part attached, but not the lanyard, the two easily come apart.  The lanyard itself is adjustable, letting you get it at a comfortable length.  It’s not out just yet, but it’s set to be coming soon.  You can give them your email and they’ll inform you as to when it is actually out though.  Once it is, you can pick it up for $19.99.

HTC Wildfire introduced

Posted: 19 May 2010 06:47 PM PDT

HTC seems to be playing out a balancing act between Windows Mobile smartphones as well as handsets that are powered by the Google Android operating system, but lately the company seem to be trending more towards the latter with a slew of Android phones rolling out, while Windows Mobile has taken a backseat. This could be due to the fact that Windows Phone 7 isn’t out just yet for the masses to consume, so HTC might as well make the best out of the entire situation by releasing phones that folks want to look at, right? Their latest attempt is known as the HTC Wildfire, where it is another HTC Sense-based Android phone which will integrate the most popular social networks, following in the footsteps of the HTC Desire while ensuring its signature HTC Sense experience remains accessible to a younger demographic.

The HTC Sense will bring all your communications into a single place, regardless of which social networking tool/site fan you’re of, comprising of Facebook, Twitter, text messages, images or email, making sure that you are always in the loop whenever your friends start some sort of chatter. Of course, all of these will come to naught if you do not happen to subscribe to a decent data package, because paying per kilobyte is absolutely not cool, and you might just end up with a heart attack at the end of the month after taking a look at the bill that arrives in your mailbox.

All contacts viewed in the HTC Wildfire's address book will also comprise of a thread of recent communications with that person, and that includes when you last spoke, recent text messages and emails, and social network updates. Whenever your friend gives you a call, the HTC Caller ID will display their Facebook profile photo and latest update, alongside a birthday reminder should that day on the calendar be right up the corner. Not only that, a new app sharing widget lets you recommend an application by email, text message or over social networks, where your friends will be “spammed” by a link so to speak, as they can find the application on the Android Market with a single click and download it to their phone. There is no word on pricing or availability, but the new HTC Wildfire will be headed towards major European and Asian markets from Q3 2010 onwards.
