Touted to be the perfect device for business customers who are heavily involved in industries such as construction, public safety and utilities, the Casio G’zOne Brigade is no slouch when it comes to existing in harsh working environments without compromising on its cellular technology when you need it the most. Apart from being able to make and receive calls and text messages, the Casio G’zOne Brigade sports a QWERTY keyboard to get those messages out fast, an HTML browser just in case you want to catch up on the latest happenings via a mobile news portal, and a Document Viewer for reviewing Microsoft Word documents, Microsoft Excel spreadsheets, Microsoft PowerPoint presentations and PDFs. The tough Casio G’zOne Brigade is also sensitive to those who have an eye for detail and fashion as well, since you will be able to pull it out of your pocket proudly as it comes in Matte Black with a unique crocodile texture exterior for enhanced grip. The horizontal clamshell design is tough to withstand most drops and falls without breaking a swear, while it also knows you want to play thanks to a 3.2-megapixel camera equipped with flash, video capture capability as well as LED lighting. OCZ expands SSD line with Onyx SATA II Posted: 12 Mar 2010 06:07 PM PST
Priced under the $100 mark, you will be pleased to know that a single Benjamin will be able to bring you 32GB of storage space on SSD format, delivering an enhanced computing experience where you will be able to enjoy superior application loading, snappier data access, a much shorter boot up time as well as prolonged battery life. All Onyx SSDs will feature hard drive dominating access times, capable of touching 125MB/s for read speeds as well as 70MB/s for write speeds, as it is aided by 64MB of onboard cache as well as a special performance optimization capability that helps keep the drives running at peak performance over a long period of time. Each OCZ Onyx SSD drive will come in a durable yet lightweight housing, and due to the fact that SSDs do not contain any moving parts, these drives are way more rugged compared to traditional hard drives, so you don’t have to have your heart stop each time you bang or drop your computer by accident, wondering whether the precious data stored within will fall victim to a bad sector or not. We only have one gripe about this though, and that is the rather small capacity in which it comes in. Seriously, 32GB isn’t going to cut the mustard for most folks these days, so this will probably see action on netbooks for folks who want a faster boot up time, while relying on a portable hard drive for storage solutions. You get 1.5 million hour mean time between failure (MTBF) with the OCZ Onyx alongside a 3-year warranty – now how about that! Cool Gift Idea: Digital Picture Frames, check out our reviews. Posted: 12 Mar 2010 02:59 PM PST I’ve never heard of the phrase “steampunk musician” before I wrote this post, but Yoshi Akai apparently is one. He wrote a master’s thesis on turning color into sound, and he has invented a way of turning Lego into music. This Lego Sequencer MR II, which uses the famous brick to make different sound combinations. You can watch a video of this Lego instrument in action, and I’m not certain why the other half of this device looks this way. Apparently, putting the bricks in certain places, along with certain colors of bricks alters the sound. In fact, you can make all sorts of combinations in stacks of bricks for all kinds of rhythms. It reminds me of one of those Casio keyboards back in the eighties, but instead of buttons, you have to connect Lego bricks together. I don’t know if this is one instrument that I would play, but I really think that Lego needs to adopt this on their catalog. This would be bigger than when they started making Lego Star Wars toys. Okay, maybe not that big. Still, it would be an instrument that I could play. Perhaps I could be a steampunk musician. Maybe I’ll just stick to the Beamz Interactive.

Tropicana creates an artificial sun Posted: 12 Mar 2010 02:30 PM PST Ever seen the movie Insomnia? In the film, Al Pacino investigates a murder in an Alaskan town, but there is never any night. As it so happens, he arrived during the time where there are six months of daylight. I always wondered if the film would have been scarier had it taken place during the six months of night. I think Christopher Nolan, the director of the film, had to make the dark Batman Begins to make up for the daylight of Insomnia. I hope I never have to live in a night that last six months. I bring this up because a town of Inuvik was in that perpetual night, until Tropicana came to town. The orange juice company hooked up a gigantic helium balloon with about 100,000 lumens to make an artificial sun. You can see the video after the jump. And then they passed out orange juice and filmed a commercial. Granted, it is rather a lame excuse to pitch your product to Inuvik, but a good excuse to see if you can really make an artificial sun to brighten a town that was shrouded in darkness. At least the Tropicana sun is much more constructive than Icarus, the artificial sun/big fricking laser in Die Another Day. VirtuSphere for virtual reality games at GDC Posted: 12 Mar 2010 01:57 PM PST Back in the early nineties, we all thought that the video games of 2010 would be with goggles and a toy gun. We were wrong with Virtual Boy, and we never figured out a way to get a player to run in a game while standing still in the gaming area. Better late than never, VirtuSphere is here to bring our virutal reality dreams to life. As you can see, the VirtuSphere looks like the Ball of Death from The Simpsons Movie, and it allows a player to move somewhat freely in any direction for the game that they want to play. There is a video after the jump, and you can see that it takes a team to get a player in this giant, metal, stationary hamster ball. To me, it looks just plain unsteady. I would think that it would get used to, but this player in the vid does not even trip once. The game that he’s playing doesn’t look very good, though. Couldn’t they set it up for Metroid Prime or Tomb Raider? This video was taken at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco, and, as you might have guessed, it would be quite expensive to get it on your own. It would cost about $55,000.00, and you would need a lot of space to make it work. Not to mention a team to lock you in, I guess. I’ve heard that there will be one at the Excalibur in Las Vegas. Maybe I’ll check it out during next year’s CES. Tech Cult – We cover the latest tech news, but always with a funny twist. Universal Drying Appartus for shoes and more Posted: 12 Mar 2010 01:51 PM PST Boot and shoe dryers are definitely convenient, but they only work for your shoes. It seems like a waste of money to spend your hard earned money on a gadget with only one function. Instead you need something like this Universal Drying Apparatus. Instead of just drying just your shoes it can handle other things like your clothing or even your umbrella. It’s definitely a must have gadget for the rain filled season we’re about to begin. The device has adjustable arms that allow for it to work in more ways than one. Adjust the arms and it holds your umbrella, move them around again and the dryer will hover over your shoes. Not only does it dry off your clothing, umbrellas and accessories, but it also can dry out seeds and berries. It’s definitely a more useful gadget to have around. This design by Olga Kalugina is unfortunately still in the concept phase though. Source: Ubergizmo Coolest Gadgets UK – For all your UK centric tech and gadget news. SafeDriver Wireless Vehicle Monitor Posted: 12 Mar 2010 11:51 AM PST There are times I genuinely feel sorry for teenagers these days. Usually a lot of people grumble about all the new electronics that kids get to use, that they never got to have as kids. Personally, I really have no desire to be a kid in this day and age. When you’re in high school you’re going to cause a certain amount of mischief. I was one of the many that enjoyed driving fast down back roads. Had my parents had this device I’d have never had any fun. Now that being said, it’s an awesome day and age to help parents make sure their kids aren’t up to anything. This SafeDriver Wireless Vehicle Monitor is easy to install and has a tamper-proof pin number. The device records the highest speed traveled on their trip, plus it keeps track of any sudden braking. It’ll also let you know the distance traveled, so you know if they did any extra driving that they weren’t supposed to be doing. You can purchase it for $69.99 through Think Geek.
