SMASH guitar meant to be destroyed

Don’t you just wish that you could play the role of a rock star sometimes, having tons of adoring groupies who are willing to jump into bed with you any second? Of course, before that happens, you would have reached a crescendo in your concert by smashing your expensive, custom-made guitar into smithereens on the stage for one plain, simple reason – simply because you CAN. What about ordinary folk like you and I? This is where the SMASH guitar comes in – it is affordable at $60 each, and are made out of completely recyclable products, which means the environment doesn’t suffer (apart from the noise pollution at concerts). Now how about that – is the price tag still too much to consider going nuts, just for once?

At $14.99 apiece, these unique Chat Pillows are definitely worth checking out if you’re part of the savvy Internet generation. MiLi iPhone Projector

We’ve seen plenty of pico projectors in the past, but here’s one that targets the iPhone specifically – the MiLi iPhone Projector. It works with the iPod as well, offering you a way of viewing all those GBs of video files stored on your device without having to squint your eyes after a while due to the screen size. After all, this projector will throw a much larger image onto any decent surface, letting not only you but others around to check out the latest episode in your favorite drama series. You can pick one up for £229.

Compatible with both the iPhone and the iPod (so anyone who hasn’t made the leap to iPhone yet is still ok), the MiLi Projector is the only portable media viewing device you’ll need. Not that many people need more than one, but you get the idea. It’s a bit like having a cinema in your pocket, but without the sticky floors and lack of leg-room, and with a maximum projection of 70 inches you’ll feel like you’ve stumbled into a very comfortable multiplex. There are some nice integrated speakers and even a remote control to adjust the whole thing with. You can either opt for good ol’ wall socket power or charge it up via USB, which will give you 1.5 hours of viewing time. The focus is fully adjustable, it’ll charge your iPhone/iPod, you can connect other external video devices like a PC, Laptop (perfect for presentations), DVD player or VCR thanks to the AV in/out connection… the list of features just goes on and on. Heck, it’s even got its own cute little stand.

Weigh to go double checks weight limit

You know that living out of a suitcase is no fun for most folks as the novelty wears off after a while, and not to mention having the spectre of the luggage weight limit hanging over your head most of the time. Well, Weigh to go is here to save the day, where it comes with two Velcro straps alongside a lockable steel carabineer that ensures it isn’t stolen that easily. All you need to do is lift the Weigh to go for five seconds and wait for it to issue a reading of your luggage’s weight in either kilograms or pounds. At $33 a pop, it helps you save much more on unwanted excess baggage charges.

Cleankeys keyboard is easy to clean

Seeing these Cleankeys keyboard reminds me of the Atari 400. Some of you may not remember this slightly cheaper version of the Atari 800 home computer that used a TV as a monitor, but the keyboard did not have the individual keys like the ones on most of our PCs and laptops of today.

The problem with the 400 is that they had a way of not relaying input when then were touched lightly. Hopefully, the people who made the Cleankeys have solved this problem, but I think that their goal was to make a computer keyboard that would be easily cleanable.

All you need to do is just wipe it down like you would a window. Not only is this a computer for all germphobics, but for most offices where computer keyboards are shared amongst employees.

The cleankeys have a numeric keypad, and what looks like a circular touchpad in its lower right hand corner. Now, an easily cleanable keyboard is the good news. The bad news is the price tag. It costs about $400.

Yeah, I don’t know about you, but I’m willing to take a risk with germs rather than pay that price for a keyboard, which is about four times more than a regular keyboard. Maybe if it was wireless, I would pay a little more, but that is usually it.

Guppie is one tool to rule them all

We have reported on the Lil Guppie before, and I suppose that this is the next step up, the Guppie. Actually, I think that this Guppie is the same as the Lil Guppie, just like Lil Bow Wow is the same as Bow Wow. (Oh, why do those young rappers put Lil in front of their names? Don’t they know that they will grow out of the Lil?)

This Guppie is one tool that I would have in my pocket, possibly the only one. The Guppie has an adjustable wrench with the crescent wrench adjuster worm gear. It also has a flip-out knife, and an LED flashlight, but I don’t see it in my picture. Did I mention the beer bottle opener? It’s got one, and I’m guessing its by its weird flip-up handle.

It also has a screwdriver with some magnetic heads, and the user can add his or her own.

All in all, the Guppie is the one tool to rule them all, like it says in my headline. By the way, there have been many a geek who has used that one (insert pronoun here) to rule them all headline. It probably isn’t worth it to use it again.

I’m not certain why it is called the Guppie. Is that because it is fish shaped, like a guppy? By the way, if you run a search on Guppie, one definition is “a gay yuppie”. Not something I would name a tool after, and I definitely wouldn’t have put “Lil” in front of it.

Nintendo Wii could help stroke victims recover

We have reported how WiiSports and other Wii activities are simply not as good real exercise.

However, a recent research project by the American Stroke Association International Stroke Conference 2010 would suggest that playing these virtual reality games could help stroke victims improve their motor function.

This study was based on 20 stroke survivors, and both groups engaged in eight one hour sessions over a two week period approximately two months after suffering from a stroke. The ones who played Wii Tennis as well as Wii Cooking Mama demonstrated “significant” motor “improvement in speed and extent of recovery”.

According to Gustavo Saposnik, the director of the Stroke Outcomes Research Unit at the Li Ka Shing Institute at St. Michael’s Hospital, this is the first randomized clinical study showing that Wii gaming technology can produce effective stroke rehabilitation.

In all honesty, this reminds me of a recent episode of The Simpsons. On this episode, there was a Plot B involving Lisa giving Grandpa Simpson and his rest home a Zii gaming system. Yeah, it’s clear what Zii is satirizing, and the gameplay of ZiiSports was enough to get all of the senior citizens of the rest home on their feet again. Too bad the nurses didn’t feel the same way.

Still, the prospect of the Wii helping victims of strokes is interesting enough to follow up with more studies.

Landport Solar-Powered Speakers

Apparently these oddly shaped speakers are Japan’s very first set of active speakers that are solar-powered.  These look more like a cryptic scroll than a set of speakers, but they are speakers.  They’re also speakers that will help you become just a little more eco-friendly.  After all, every little bit helps.  These flat speakers are shaped just right to give you the sound you need and suck up all the sun they’ll require to keep up and running.

Once the Lithium-ion battery has managed to get a full charge, the speakers will run for a full 8 hours continuously.  The 19.5cm by 11.2cm by 5cm speaker can be connected to your iPod or MP3 player through the stereo mini input.  It weighs 290 grams and will be released in Japan sometime this coming March.  At that time it’ll be priced at 5,250 Yen or right around $58.

Antenna disguised as picture frame

A TV antenna is not something that’s typically left in plain sight if it can be helped.  Usually they’re a bit on the ugly side and everyone can identify one on sight.  If you don’t want to leave out an antenna that announces its presence in your living room, you might want to pick this one up.  Instead of being too obvious, it looks like nothing more than a normal picture frame.  Not a digital one, but at least it’ll show off one of your pictures.

The antenna can receive DAB, DVB-T & ATSC signals.  It’ll also work out just fine to pick up those analog TV signals.  It claims it’ll even work for those that in the past have had to rely on the large outdoor antennas.  It has a USB interface as well as an optional power supply.  It also of course has low noise and low distortion amplifiers.  It’ll work with either your TV or PC.   You can purchase one for $39.99 through Clixxun.

Growin Up Speaker System

If you’re tired of all of your speakers lacking any organic gadget feel, then this speaker system should be a nice change.  Instead of trying to look like every other cutting edge speaker system out there, these take a cue from the trees.  This system makes it so that it looks like a bright white trunk is slowly growing up from the floor and the speakers sprout out of the side of the trunk.

The bright white contrasted with the black gives the set a very modern feel, all the while still being earthy.  It’ll give you the best of both worlds.  The low tone speakers are closer to the ground, while the high pitched sounds go towards the top.  They’re capable of being stacked together or even used separately.  These speakers are a concept design by Marcos Ignacio Madia.  That also means that these will probably be a little hard to get your hands on.

Toshiba knows that the tablet road could very well be the next big thing, and has hence come up with the Toshiba Portégé M780 Tablet PC that boasts multi-touch display capability to keep up with the times. Capable enough to deliver an enhanced computing experience to students, educators and business professionals via the now well-known benefits of touch, it also offers an alternative platform to everyday computing which is sure to get your friends all curious about your latest purchase. Granted, this will be much more hefty compared to a skinny and lightweight netbook, but the features and specifications which we’ll look at later after the jump might just persuade you to pick one up.

Garia LSV Concept Car

If you’re going to pay a visit to Geneva this coming March 4 to 14, chances are you would be attending the world-renowned motor show. While we’re pretty sure that there will be plenty of cool looking sets of wheels there, the Garia LSV Concept Car is one that ought to catch your eye as well, after all, this is a street legal version of The Garia Golf Car. This low speed vehicle is able to travel on public roads in the U.S. that are normally not accessible to regular golf carts or neighborhood electric vehicles, hence its attraction for its versatility. You will also find a host of street legal safety equipment such as seatbelts, license plate and side mirrors. Expect to see the Garia LSV hit the US market sometime this summer, but for flks living in the EU, theirs will be a non-street legal vehicle. Hmmm, what gives?
