Switcle turns off the outlet Posted: 18 Jan 2010 02:46 PM PST We’ve all heard that we need to unplug our electronics entirely instead of just turning them off.  That way all of those small lights on your devices are completely off as well.  Of course even knowing that information, sometimes you just forget.  Then on top of it that means later on you have plugs lying on the floor to plug back into the wall.  Instead of that mess you could use one of these that makes it so that the outlet itself is turned off. You do still have the issue of having to remember to turn off the outlet.  However, it’s one less issue for you to worry about.  The more convenient it is to be eco-friendly the more likely you are to do all of the right things.  These outlets were designed by Daun Yun and Junil Choi, so that does mean that it is still at the concept point.  Of course it would be a little obnoxious to have only one plug in on the switch.  However, if it were turned into a double switch it’d work out nicely. The Motion Sensing LED Light Posted: 18 Jan 2010 02:05 PM PST There are times when it’d make life a lot easier if lights would just come on.  Be it because you usually have your hands full in that area or any other reason, it’d just be nice.  Now this little motion sensor won’t turn on all the lights in the room, but it will turn on a small light to help you find your way.  Plus it could be used as a security device, so you’ll know if someone is moving around where they shouldn’t. This simple little light could even be used in other areas besides in your home.  It could also be grabbed for when you go camping if you need some small lights to keep you from tripping over anything.  On the light itself you can adjust the sensitivity of the motion sensor.  You can also just shut off the light entirely.  It runs on 4 AAA batteries which aren’t actually included.  You can purchase it for $12. Misa Digital Guitar has “got no strings” Posted: 18 Jan 2010 01:51 PM PST Some of you might remember the opening of Bryan Adams hit song “Summer of ‘69″. It goes: “I got my first real six-string, brought it at the five and dime. Played ’til my fingers bled, it was the summer of ‘69″. If Bryan Adams had meant the summer of 2069, then I doubt his fingers would be bleeding after playing a guitar. Why do I say that? Because I have seen the future of guitars, and it is without strings. If you don’t believe me, then check out the video after the jump. You will note this guy is shredding on the Linux-powered Misa Digital Guitar, and there are no strings, just a light-up touchscreen. In addition to the touchscreen, the Misa Digital Guitar has over 24 that are very versatile. By the way, it is possible to interface this guitar with the user’s PC. Clearly, the Misa Digital Guitar is a product of the Guitar Hero/RockBand generation. It is made for those who are willing to accept the discipline of learning how to play a real instrument, but want to really break out of the box when it comes to what traditional instruments can do. So, a guitar without strings? What’s next, a piano that doesn’t have keys? I suppose you could do just as good with a wide touchscreen that replaces the traditional 88 keys. (Just on a side note, Bryan Adams was born in 1959. During the summer of ‘69, he would have ten years old. And yet the song “Summer of ‘69″ seems to imply that he was a teenager during that time.) Magic Click Floor Mop stands on its own Posted: 18 Jan 2010 01:25 PM PST Some of you might remember seeing those ads on television for the Miracle Mop. I don’t know how miraculous the Miracle Mop was, but this Magic Click Floop Mop could clearly take its miracle title. Yes, what you are seeing is true, this mop knows how to stand by itself, without falling over. Apparently, it uses a magnetic floor mop carrier blade with a two-step foot switch in order to stand on its own one foot. In addition to this ability, the Magic Click Floor Mop can be pivoted in all directions. Hard-to-reach corners are made easier to clean, and they are suitable for all standard mop pads. It also has a telescope pole that can be extended from 80 cm to 150 cm (2 1/2 to 4 3/4 feet). I wondered why someone would invent a floor mop that could stand on its own. At first I thought someone just wanted to prove that it could be done, but then I thought about my own broom and mop closet. All my brooms and mops are leaning in a corner, and when the door of the closet is opened, they tend to fall out like that really awkward scene with Peter Parker at the opening of Spider-man 2. Babyliss Eco Hair Dryer uses half the energy Posted: 18 Jan 2010 01:13 PM PST When choosing a hair dryer, most women are looking at what it’s going to do to their hair.  All of the fancy inserts that make it possible to give hair shine and a better style.  One of the things people don’t always think of is how good or bad the hair dryer is for the environment.  This pretty white hair dryer may not have state of the art items to add to it, but it will help keep your energy bill down. Augmented Reality could give drivers some much-needed X-ray vision Posted: 18 Jan 2010 01:06 PM PST I have written several posts about Augmented Reality and how cool it is, but I’m sure that most of you are wondering what it is good for, other than some entertaining special effect. All that is about to change as Yaser Sheikh of Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania has figured out a way that Augmented Reality can save lives. Just watch the video to see what it is about, and you will see how useful AR technology could be. Haven’t you ever had to make a left turn into a blind corner? Wouldn’t it be handy if you knew that there was a car coming? An accident could be prevented. The technology uses two cameras in order to make this X-ray vision trick possible. One camera has to be placed around the corner, and the other would have to be in the automobile that the user is driving. From there, the two images are synced together, super-imposed, and the driver can now see through walls. I am assuming that the driver wears some specialized helmet or has a display on their dashboard. I suppose that the proper implementation of this tech could rid the world of blindsiding accidents as we know them. Howerver, using AR technology like this could flood the driver with multiple images that could make make one doubt what is reality, and what is augmented reality. Motorola introduces MOTOROI in Korea Posted: 18 Jan 2010 11:59 AM PST We all know that cellphones in South Korea are on the advanced side of things, and it comes as no surprise as technology in that country has grown by leaps and bounds ever since the government decided to industrialize the entire nation (at least on the southern end of things). Well, today marks a new milestone in their cellphone histroy as the first Android 2.0 smartphone has arrived in Korea, and it does not hail from Samsung or LG, but is known as the MOTOROI instead. Judging by the name of the handset itself, you can easily tell that this is an offering from Motorola, and the MOTOROI is supposed to offer multi-tasking capability, effortless pinch-and-zoom browsing which might just win some iPhone fans over, as well as the ability to handle audio and video playback with aplomb. More details on the Motorola MOTOROI right after the jump. SK Telecom will be the official MOTOROI carrier, where the smartphone itself does not come up short in terms of features. After all, you get a lovely 3.7″ WVGA display at 480 x 854 resolution that would make Web surfing with the device a real treat, not to mention the ability of Androdi 2.0 that complements the overall user experience as it makes it a snap to view full page websites, videos, games or photos without having you to squint.
