In this day and age, we tend to take our smartphones for granted, and sure, the kind of technology that our phones pack do seem to last longer than normal while offering more and more functions, but there are still moments in life where one might have just forgotten about charging up the smartphone for the day's events ahead. Well, perhaps in order to prevent those "doggone it!" moments, there is always a device like the PhoneSuit Flex Micro Battery Pack, which as its name suggests, is a portable, "on the go" battery that was specially designed to deliver instant power to energy hungry smartphones.

How does the PhoneSuit Flex Micro Battery Pack work? Well, it does not matter if you need that final push to complete a phone call (be it during an emergency or when you need to close that multi-million dollar deal), to tune in to your favorite Internet radio station, or even to watch movies – the PhoneSuit Flex is able to handle it all. Touted as one of the smallest and most powerful battery packs that are currently available in the market, it will sport a high capacity 2600 mAh battery that is packed in a device which measures roughly the size of a person's thumb.

This enables the Flex to, er, "flex" it's battery power to deliver double the power or a full charge, on majority of smartphones out there. The PhoneSuit Flex's tiny size and integrated connector tip will enable users of it to hook up the battery straight to their smartphone when traveling. The PhoneSuit Flex will even remain attached and securely in place even as you use the smartphone, making it one of the more ideal solutions for folks who want the advantage of portable power without having to worry about the bulk of a battery case, or in some other cases, a large battery pack solution.

Tasty Food in Gaseous/Liquid Form

Have you experienced molecular gastronomy? This art of using food’s physical and chemical characteristics to exploit the true flavors and appease our palettes has a big following. Some smart designers in France decided that drinking our favorite recipes offers a unique method of tasting our food – with fewer calories!

Le Whaf turns your food into vapor. Mix your liquid concoction together and insert into the stylish looking glass carafe. Tilt the vessel to then create the vapor using ultrasound waves from vibrating piezoelectric crystals. Pour some vapor into a glass. Then, using the Whaf Straw, sip the vapor to get a massive burst of flavor but few calories. You literally taste the liquid as it is recreated from the gas generated. Can you imagine being able to enjoy that glorious chocolate dessert without the calories? Or imagine an entire meal being taken in through the straw and reproduced in your mouth. The makers are undertaking the task of a cookbook to help you create too. The carafe cost €129 (about $168) and a 6-pack of straws €5. Le Whaf may not be the way to eat every meal, but the first 1000 units have sold out. So someone must be finding a good use. More are in production though. Stay tuned to the lab store for more details on when Le Whaf will return.

MobileMount+ makes mounting gadgets a snap

Here's a quick question for you to ponder over – so you already own a DSLR or a compact digital camera and a smartphone, but which device do you use more often to capture photos whenever you are out? The smartphone would more or less be the answer for most folks out there, and with ever increasing advancements made in the world of camera sensors for smartphones, you know that this trend is not going to slow down or stop anytime soon. Sometimes, however, you wished you had the chance to mount your smartphone somewhere to capture a particular shot of you and your better half from afar, and this is where something like the MobileMount+ device would come in handy.

It does not matter if you opt to shoot photos or want to follow your GPS functionality on your smartphone to a new and unfamiliar destination, or even to view movies on your tablet, the MobileMount+ is able to make all of that possible without tiring your hands out, as long as there is a flat surface in the vicnity.

The MobileMount+ is made up of a couple of suction cups and one threaded ball joint, where it can function as a camera mount in addition to being a car mount or a tabletop kickstand. When you connect the mount to a tripod or other camera accessory, you are able to unscrew the ball from the suction cup and hook it up to any camera accessory which supports 0.25" 20 threads. Both the ball and joint on the MobileMount+ will enable users to adjust the mount at an angle of your choice, making it ideal to capture the perfect shot.

When the MobileMount+ suction cups are screwed together, they will enable you to prop up your tablet on the countertop for easy tabletop viewing and use. It will also enable you to mount your device to your car window so that you can use it on the go. Expect the MobileMount+ camera to arrive this coming July 2013 assuming the Kickstarter project collects enough funding.

So you own your fair share of iDevices from Apple, and sometimes, keeping track of all the different accessories for them can be quite a headache. Perhaps there is a way to consolidate some of those accessories that have a common denominator, and the charger is one possibility. It is along this train of thought that the iCharge All Portable Charger was birthed from, where you will no longer need to worry about ending up with a drained iPhone, as all you need to do is plug your iPhone into the iCharge All Portable Charger, and you can start chatting away again. Of course, there is the caveat that the iCharge All Portable Charger itself should be charged to the maximum before you begin on your travels, but that is a different can of worms that we shall not venture to.

The $39.99 iCharge All Portable Charger is capable of charging your iPhone more than once, and just in case you own an iPhone 5, there is always the Lighting to 30-pin adapter to help you out. Customizable Sounds Sleep Generator

Do you find it rather difficult to fall asleep each night? Assuming you have answered in the affirmative, then I am quite sure that you have tried your fair share of products and remedies – traditional or otherwise, to get some much needed rest before the sun rises for you to meet the next day head on. The thing is, nothing seem to have worked so far, and you are at your wit's end, not wanting to take the long and slippery slope that snake oil salesmen offer. Well, perhaps there is some hope left (Obi Wan Kenobi), with the $199.95 Customizable Sounds Sleep Generator.

Basically, the Customizable Sounds Sleep Generator is a special device which is capable of generating 145 soothing authentic nature sound combinations in order to help you enter dreamland. There are no chemicals or drugs to make you depend on them, as this is all natural – at least the sounds are. Sporting two dozen primary sounds (such as an ocean surf and spring rain) that have been specially captured in the field, they are able to be combined at the touch of a button, where you can mix it up with other soothing sounds such as bamboo chimes, harbor swell, or a crackling bonfire for a total of 145 combinations.

These sounds can be set to slow down in a gradual manner so that you can be lulled to sleep, and you can have them turned off automatically in 30-, 60-, or 90-minute intervals. A couple of integrated speakers and a subwoofer will deliver clear, full treble and bass, where it is accompanied by a backlit digital clock with an AM/FM stereo with three alarms in tow.

A Bed Head Savior?

If you don't have it, someone you know has bed head. Beloved bed head, That condition where after a night of sleep hair looks like something straight out of a modern art museum. No particular direction or purpose. Sort of like some of the Hollywood mop-top/unkempt looks  – Joaquin Phoenix, Kate Bosworth, etc. And trying to brush out bead head proves virtually impossible. Nothing but a full submergence in water seems to work.

In the past we highlighted products from Thanko, the Japanese company who came up with cool – but maybe not necessary – devices like the silent keyboard and USB lunch box. They are back again to help bed head-i-ans of the world. Since water tames bed head, Thanko thought they should put it into a hairbrush. Meet the USB-powered, self-misting hairbrush. Plug into any USB port to charge up the unit. Then fill the 15ml tank with water. Flip the power on and a fine stream of mist comes from the top of the handle. The reservoir will enable about 30 minutes of uninterrupted misting – though you would probably be soaked by then. Recharge after every couple hours of use to keep misting. The device is available via Thanko's website for about $75 US. Hhhmmm, dampening the brush in the sink is certainly a less expensive alternative. But if you prefer to brush and dampen at the same time, check out this device and defeat bed head with technology.

911 for Christmas Lights

"It's the most wonderful time of the year" as the song goes. Most of you have probably put the time into decorating the rooms of your house, tree, maybe even the outside of the house. I am willing to bet some of you out there let out a few curse words when testing your Christmas lights too. And then proceeded to spend hours trying to determine what bulb was bad. Times like that make investment in sets of longer-lasting LED lights quite appealing.

If you have reached the end of your proverbial Christmas light rope make sure Santa gets one of these gadgets in your stocking for future use: the Light Keeper PRO, $26.99 on Amazon. Since miniature Christmas lights are wired in a series when one goes that whole batch goes. This gun shaped device contains a voltage detector which determines where the flow of electricity stops. Simply scan along the strand and the audible tone will alert you to the bad bulb. Once you find the culprit use Light Keeper to test the fuse and bulb. If the light 'shunt' is at fault simply pump the gun a few times to send an electrical pulse to clear the shunt and let electricity flow again. The Light Keeper PRO contains an LED headlight for repairs in dark places and a spare bulb storage compartment too. Don't spend hours this holiday season determining which bulb is on the fritz! Let Light Keeper PRO do the work.

Smartphone Controlled Insectoids

They say that "there's an app for that", and just to make sure of that, have you ever figured out that your smartphone is capable of controlling tiny robotic toys? Perhaps you have heard of a remote controlled car by a smartphone before, but the $19.99 Smartphone Controlled Insectoids work slightly differently for some creepy crawly fun right there and then. After all, with the slew of small helicopters, cars and robots around, things get boring after a while, so a change in scenery is always more than welcome, and the Smartphone Controlled Insectoids provide just that.

Offering 8 directional controls for realistic scurrying action, the Smartphone Controlled Insectoids will be compatible with iOS as well as Android-powered devices, be they smartphones or tablets, although I would like to believe that a tablet delivers a less comfortable controlling experience due to the size. Still, that is but a small matter of personal preference, let us focus on the Insectoids instead. The Insectoids are infrared bugs that requires you to plug the infrared transmitter into your headphone jack before launching the Insectoid app to begin "playing." The on-screen joystick is where all the action's at, while you can also opt to use your phone’s accelerometer or the power of your voice to move your bug, now how about that? A quartet of frequency bands will let you hold Insectoid races with your mates.

What is the most precious thing to you in the world? For some of us, there is nothing quite like having a good night's rest – after all, sleep is a gift, and there are millions of insomniacs out there who would agree with that statement as they try method after method to just get some much needed rest at night, only to fall asleep when there is just one more hour left on the clock before the next day at work begins. Well, if you happen to fall into that category, I am quite sure you are willing to see whether there are other alternatives out there that you might have missed. Nintendo Warns That Wii U Network IDs Can Be Transferred During Repairs

Nintendo, after being requested for far too many times by their users, has finally shared and admitted up front that the Wii U network IDs can actually be transferred from one console to another. Just before that aghast face shows up, bear in mind that this will only be able to happen at a repair facility. Of course, this is a very different story from the assumption that many folks have, where a Wii U owner’s online account, accompanied by the range of eShop purchases and membership information, will be tied down to a specific console.

When approached by the folks over at Kotaku concerning further details on the transfer of Wii U accounts between different Wii U consoles, Nintendo replied, “Nintendo of America’s repair process includes the transferring of the Nintendo Network ID to a new Wii U console if a replacement system is needed.”

As a Nintendo Wii U owner, what do you think you can expect from the entire scenario? We do keep our fingers crossed that Nintendo would announce future plans for their network in due time, but at the moment, it might be more prudent to postpone any eShop purchases, no matter how strong the impulse to make purchases are. After all, locking up your Wii U in a protective cage or box could also work, although that would lean more on the extreme side, but at least it would do its bit in preventing any unfortunate accidents from happening.

On the other hand, the transferrable data is a good thing when you think about it. Should the particular Wii U console fail to work, Nintendo is capable of recovering such information, albeit taking a specific and unclear manner. I guess there are some secrets that need to be kept by the Big N just in case of an emergency, don't you think so?

CataCoffin Offers Music For The Dearly Departed

Do you believe in life after death? Well, whether you do or not, you might want to check out the CataCoffin, which is the brainchild of a Swedish company known as Pause. What does the CataCoffin offer? For starters, it will come with a CataCombo Sound System that will boast of a custom-built 2.1 amplifier and will be accompanied by a pair of 2-way speakers, tweeters with external cooling, as well as an 8-inch subwoofer that has been specially tuned to the coffin's acoustic space. Now, I do not know of any living vampires, and just in case you get walled in your coffin alive due to a wrongful diagnosis at the hospital, at least you have your favorite tracks to keep you company until the end comes.

The CataCoffin will be paired with the CataTomb tombstone, where the latter has an upgradeable music server that runs on a 2.5GHz Intel processor and a 4G wireless connection, letting the playlists be managed online. This would mean anyone with access can keep you tuned to the latest tracks, now how about that? A 7-inch LCD display will also show the currently playing song, plastered right beside your epitaph. The CataCoffin will retail from €23,500 upwards, and surely looping Justin Bieber tunes would end up in a zombie apocalypse worldwide as the dead arise.

What do you think of such a sombre set up? Do you think of it as gross, as the dead will need to be accorded the proper kind of respect as they are finally laid to rest? Well, I guess there are different strokes for different folks, and sometimes, just sometimes, you can afford to be a wee bit more flamboyant in death. After all, let the kids learn the ropes of life and work hard to earn their own money – you have gone through the school of hard knocks, and deserve a little something fun for all your hard work after you have gone on to the next world.
