Huawei W1 announced for the US

Another day, another smartphone hits the scene, and here we are faced with the China-based Huawei having announced Huawei W1. Right after the sponsorship announcement of the highly-anticipated Jonas Brothers Tour, Huawei has also thrown a new announcement of their maiden attempt to roll out the first Windows Phone 8 smartphone from their stables, which would be the Huawei W1, and this will happen sometime later this month online at Walmart.com in addition to select Walmart stores in the US.

Todd Greenberg, General Manager, US Windows Phone Sales at Microsoft, said, "We are proud to deliver a premium smartphone experience to customers at a competitive price point. The new Huawei W1 is a great addition to the Windows Phone 8 portfolio of devices in the U.S. with its impressive battery life and availability in Walmart stores."

Just what kind of hardware specifications does the Huawei W1 bring to the table? Well, we are looking at a rather speedy dual-core 1.2GHz processor, which will be accompanied by optimized battery technology, in addition to a gorgeous 4” IPS LCD touch screen display that is made of Gorilla glass and will boast of decent performance even under direct sunlight, not to mention a 5-megapixel camera at the back, while the front would have a VGA camera for those moments when you want to hold video calls with another friend.

The camera itself will also be accompanied by an LED flash, 4X digital zoom, auto focus and a quick access button. Running on the Windows Phone 8 operating system, which means the device would deliver a truly personal smartphone experience that ought to be able to fit unique needs and offer quick access to the people as well as other things that customers care about most.

Of course, all that remains now would be to know just which mobile carrier would offer the Huawei W1, and pricing details will depend on the kind of agreement or contract that is offered.

Nokia Asha 501 announced

Finnish phone manufacturer has yet another device released, but this time around, it will not be on the high end side of things considering how it will not run on the Windows Phone 8 mobile operating system. In fact, this will be a feature phone, but does that mean the new Nokia Asha 501 does not deserve any kind of news coverage? That would be anathema to me – at least, as Nokia intends to position the Nokia Asha 501 to break down plenty of barriers and smash people's expectations of just how much 'smartphone' that their hard earned money is able to buy.

First of all, let us get this out of the way – the Nokia Asha 501 might not be a smartphone, but this does not mean that folks who pick one up are going to lose out on touchscreen goodness. No sir, you will find the Nokia Asha 501 capable of delivering the full touchscreen experience, complete with social networks, content sharing and connectivity that has been deeply integrated into a wonderful, responsive and revamped operating system.

It will be compatible with the GSM 900/1800 + WLAN and GSM 850/1900 + WLAN bands, falling back on the Nokia Asha platform user interface, but this will not come with a dual SIM slot. There is a 3" QVGA TFT capacitive display to get things going with your fingers, a 3.2 megapixel camera, and I am quite sure the 128MB of internal memory is far from sufficient in this day and age – which is why the engineers over at Nokia has decided to throw in a memory card slot that is expandable up to 32GB, if you get the right MMC card, of course. Other connectivity options include Micro USB, a 3.5mm AV jack, and a 2mm charger connector.

The Asha 501 will come in bright red, bright green, cyan, yellow, white and black colors, where each purchase will be accompanied by a pair of red headphones right out of the box. It costs $99 a pop from Q2 onwards.

Zombie Head Bowling Balls – Got my Head in the Gutter!

Zombies have been around for an awfully long time, but I’m not exactly sure when these guys made it to the “popular” table. Everywhere I look I’m reminded of the pending Zombie apocalypse. So I have food and water saved, a goodly supply of Zombie stopper bullets and am strongly considering a moat around my house… what else can I do?

How about Zombie bowling? Assuming actual zombie heads won’t be readily available in the coming months, I can still satisfy the primal urge to include a beloved zombie in my life with a new Zombie Head Bowling Ball. No longer will I bowl in obscurity, when I arrive with my Zombie Head in hand, the leagues will take notice.

Each of these polyester, high gloss finish balls comes with a disturbingly awesome, extremely detailed zombie depiction, complete with blood, copious amounts of ooze, and vacant staring, as well as neatly marked finger hole placements that are strategically located in, or near, nostrils, eyes or mouths! Very nice.

Easier to deal with than your average zombie head, these gruesome balls come with a 2 year warranty, and are available in sizes 10, 12, 14, 15 and 16… and while I have to admit that I haven’t been bowling since I was 12, I desperately want a Zombie Head Bowling Ball and if you want to add some “life” to your game, check out  amazon.com but please, don’t rent the shoes… cause then you’ll have the feet of the undead too. Prices start around 90 bucks.

The BeoPlay H6 will offer a truly natural and authentic sound performance with focus on getting a clear midrange and a balanced bass and treble performance. It has been specially designed around 40 mm custom designed drivers that are accompanied by neodymium magnets which are perfectly angled in order to obtain the best distance and sound direction into the ears. The clever use of solid cowhide leather on the BeoPlay H6 headphones that hails from New Zealand is another masterstroke in craftsmanship, as cows there roam in controlled pastures and only the very highest quality hides are selected. You can be assured that each leather product is completely natural, and the leather is dyed with a tanning process which offers colors in rich and warm tones.

Sony Vaio Fit laptop announced

Sony has just announced a spanking new laptop for the masses that will come with something that most modern day devices have – a touchscreen display. Yes sir, the new Sony Vaio Fit laptop will boast of Sony’s innovative digital imaging, sound and display technologies, where it is tipped to deliver a fair number of features that are similar to those found in their thin and powerful ultra-premium models, albeit without breaking the bank since you would most probably come face to face with an entry-level price point.

The new Fit range has been optimized for the Windows 8 platform, where it will incorporate the best technology which Sony can muster, bringing along with it the strengths from their innovative digital imaging, sound and TV divisions. The all new Vaio Fit and Fit E product ranges are an excellent portable companion, with Sony focusing heavily on design without compromising on performance. As for the Vaio Fit 14 and 15 models alongside the Vaio Fit 14E and Fit 15E models which are extremely thin and light, all of them will come crafted in tough, aluminum materials, with the Vaio Fit 14 and 15 models sporting Sony’s signature sparkling diamond cut Vaio logo.

The very same folks behind the amazing TVs from Sony also worked on this particular Vaio Fit range, where you will find high resolution displays at Full HD (1920 x 1080) on the Fit 15 model and HD+ (1600 x 900) on the Fit 14 model, in addition to color enhancement technology for an unbelievably crisp picture – elevating your movies and games to the next level. There is also the option to throw in a capacitive touchscreen display, which paves the way for a snappy and responsive touch experience while the LED backlight would ensure a bright display while conserving battery life.

Musical Ruler with Songbook

I am quite sure that you have heard of musical chairs before, but what about the Musical Ruler? Now that is definitely something worth looking into, don't you think so? The $12.99 Musical Ruler with Songbook is the latest tool from ThinkGeek that helps make learning more fun, although you might find it to be a tad irritating when your little one has fallen head over heels for it. The Musical Ruler has been tuned to the key of C, where it comes in a closed hole student model, with a guide/songbook thrown into the mix for good measure.

No longer do you need to feel as though you are the odd one out whenever your musically inclined friends start to talk about notes and other kinds of stuff associated with music. For those who have this feeling that there is a song deep inside of you dying to get out, why not give the Musical Ruler a go before that? Each Musical Ruler's accompanying songbook will help you get started right out of the box, where you can play a bunch of basic tunes as well as check out the history of those songs. Since this musical ruler was developed in the UK, it measures in centimeters only. All you need to do is move it to the corresponding mark on the ruler and give it a "twanggg!" for the desired note, and you should be holding your own concert anytime soon.

Nokia pays homage to Sir Alex Ferguson with customized Nokia Lumia 920

Yes, I am quite sure that many people are still in shock over Sir Alex Ferguson's recent announcement that he was going to retire after being at the helm of Manchester United since 1986, where along the way, the most decorated manager of modern times have picked up a whopping 38 trophies, certainly making him one of the most outstanding football managers regardless of the era. His crown jewels include 13 Premier League titles, five FA Cups and a couple of Champions League titles amongst others, which is why Nokia decided to celebrate and pay homage to the man by introducing a customized red version of the Nokia Lumia 920, where the back has been engraved with the following words.

"Sir Alex Chapman Ferguson. Manchester United Manager 1986 – 2013. Good luck Sir Alex", and I do wonder whether any Manchester United fan who picks up this special edition of the Lumia 920 would actually use it as his or her primary handset, or rather, would this device be bagged and sealed so that the eternal words behind would never be chapped off?
